I'm putting together a hamper for a family member, and I'd like to include lots of local produce. Anything from London is fine but SW would be lovely and personal as they spent most of their whole life here. Any suggestions of products I can include? I'm looking for food/drink mostly, but any other little 'gifty' bits would be fine too.

The heat is ON! Higher temperatures affect living things and electronics alike. You may find that your computers are making more noise as they try to cool themselves and/or seem particularly slow when rooms they are in get hot. The main culprit is dust and it affects both PCs and Apple Macs. Small fans with small cooler grills get clogged up even in generally clean environments and much more so in dusty and places where people smoke (tar is sticky). Hottest components like processors don't die in a puff of smoke these days thanks to sophisticated techniques that make them run slower and a little cooler. However running slow is what we don't want to see in computers.
Long story short. If you are confident with steady hands then get inside and clean that dust. Vacuum cleaners are less effective and harder to handle. Compressed air works best but don't allow fans to pickup high speeds by gently holding them back, as fast spins can generate electricity inside them and burn out fan controls.
If you are not so confident then get in touch with your favourite IT person contact and ask them to help.
Those who don't have one are welcome to get in touch with me.
Some pics to show what I'm talking about: -
We need some grouting done around a shower. Can anyone recommend a handy person who does general DIY, home jobs … bit of this and a bit of that? Someone who is good, reliable and not too expensive and who we can call on again … and again?

Charities collecting on the doorstep (Edited)
Has anyone ever successfully donated or set up a direct debit to a charity via a worker who knocks on your door? One came around last night, I politely said "no thanks". I couldn't help thinking that he could be anyone with a charity T-Shirt on, asking for my bank details. How can you tell the difference between the genuine and the scammers?

Does anyone recognise this beetle?
Found a few in the bathroom and not sure if this is just an "accidental party" or a kind of home pest.

All the usual suspects that sent me crap for years and then requested my permission to carry on, and did not get it are still sending me tons of junk!
I see no way to report them as there is nobody interested!!!

Why are my lemons growing black?
Does anyone know anything about growing lemon trees in a pot? My kids bought me one for Xmas. I've potted it on in a bigger pot using our home made compost and I've put it outside now in the sunshine. But the lemons that are growing are 'black' not green. When I've googled it comes up with fungus. The leaves look okay. Before I go to the garden centre, I thought I'd try here in case anyone can give any info.

Best before dates removal on produce. Thoughts aloud...
This morning I've seen a headline on BBC about Tesco scrapping BB dates on some of their produce. The rationale behind it is of course to cut food waste on something that is perfectly edible long after that date. I don't shop at Tesco but is a frequent visitor to Lidl and have observed some of the side effects of this BB date removal. Firstly, prices have not dropped on produce that is now without a best before date, however too often once the produce is taken home and opened up multiple items are found to be already rotting. Taking it back to the shop is a chore and if I don't plan a trip soon the produce would properly decompose in 2-3 days.
Packaging has remained plastic with plentiful prints to obscure inspection of produce.
It now seems to me that a brilliant idea (as it seemed) is now a formula to bump up retailer profits.
Maybe shops need to keep BBDs but once those passed loosen up the produce to allow hand selection?
Has anyone else encountered issue or has other suggestions? -
I'm looking for some camping equipment for the upcoming bank holiday. Has anyone been once or twice and looking to sell stuff on/hire it out/possibly let us borrow? I don't want to invest in brand new stuff as we'll likely never use it again. Failing that, any recommendations for where I can get a cheapish tent/chairs/other necessities for two?

Converting analogue HI8 tapes into digital format

My daughter India is baby sitting regularly in the Earlsfield area and has great references. One of her ‘regular’ families has just got a new au pair so she’s not needed anymore so is looking for a couple of new families. She’s a very mature 15yr old who loves kids. She charges £7 an hour up to midnight and £9 after.
Do call me on 07984562150 for more details. -
GDPR rush with scary side-effects...
This General Data Protection Regulation rush of compliance has scary side-effects... I'm getting contacted for consent by organisations I have never dealt with and had no clue that they have got my name and contact details. Looks like flood waters are dislodging a lot of rats!!!

Due to imminent building works starting I am about to lose my lovely garden. I want to save some of the plants in plant pots and need more. Does anyone have any large -ish minimum about 15 cm diameter that I can use to transfer plants. Plastic would be best as they are lighter than the ceramic ones. I can collect but would prefer nearish Southfields. Any offers would be gratefully received.
Thanks Sue -
Just a note on warm weather and computers...
If you find that your laptop (PC or Mac) or an all-in-one desktop run slower in this warm weather then you may find that it is not because it is suddenly "running out of steam" but is actually very much "steamed up"! Overheating computers try to cool by revving up cooler fans but if airways are dirty and blocked that will not help and the next step would be to slow down the processor to prevent thermal damage. The result is a slow PC/laptop/macbook/iMac...
The problem is exacerbated by latest computers getting all glue up and stopping average users from cleaning them. Two iMacs felt distinctly hot when touched at the back and when opened up didn't look particularity dirty. However the cooler fins (invisible behind the fan cover) have been heavily soiled and a compressed air blast produced a cloud of filth spewing in all directions! When everything was reassembled the processing speed returned and the computer back felt cool even after another hour of use.
If you have a similar issue then get in touch with your favourite local IT tech and get it cleaned! It is not only software filth that slows down your IT, the old-favourite dirt is still at it too! -
I've often been asked if I know a responsive and reasonably priced heating engineer or plumber. As it happens I do - his name is Roye Chapman, a Gas Safe registered heating engineer who can also turn his hand to general plumbing, but who knows all there is to know about boilers. We've known him about 7 years now, since he was recommended to us as the best independent heating engineer in this part of London. To begin with, we wanted a new water main brought in from the street. Then we needed a new boiler and some extra radiators for my loft extension. After that, some re-routing of kitchen pipework, and a new bathroom. The quality of his work, with copper pipes or plastic, is top notch. All very neat and tidy. You can reach him on 07836 280826. Keep his number handy. I've had excellent feedback from people I've given his details to, so don't be scared.

I've seen this clip from BBC and found it useful. All businesses are going to be affected by the upcoming new law on data privacy and this might be useful to know. GDPR papers are not an easy reading...

Does anyone experience absent notifications of PMs?
I have looked through my PMs and found several threads that I have gone dead because the other party did not reply but in fact looks that it was me not replying since I had no idea that they did. Having searched my emails I found other notices but not those for "dead" threads.

AND again the free Windows 10 upgrade...
Despite the news and multiple instances of free upgrade termination, it is still free to get Windows 10 upgrade for Win7, 8 and 8.1 computers. Just go to Windows 10 upgrade page, download the upgrade tool and run it to upgrade the "current computer" if it is properly activated with a Win7, 8, or 8.1 key.
No, it doesn't have to be a computer that has "opted in" for an upgrade before...

Tech chat... BSA audit. Does anyone have experience?
I'm being asked to prepare an audit of software products keys (licenses) for a BSA audit request. Long story but we all know that Microsoft and Adobe take great pains in hiding their product keys on all installed packages, yet it is exactly what I need to assemble. I'm familiar with Recover Keys software but it can't do latest apps with encrypted keys. The company audited did not keep records of what key went on what machine.
Anyone has experience in this? -

Does anyone know anything about the corner plot at Plough lane in front of Transformer House? I heard the heirs had willed it for public use and there was a covenant to that effect. Yet it has been fenced off and looks as though there is a development being planned.
The plot was a garden for public use we heard, yet it was kept padlocked and now has been appropriated for development. Anyone heard how this has happened? -
