TINNITUS RETRAINING THERAPY
Tinnitus is the term for sounds that are heard from the ears or head, such as ringing or hissing.
If you suffer from Tinnitus, our experienced hearing therapist can see you for one-to-one appointments which can help you to minimise the perception of these sounds, making them less intrusive.
We are based in North Finchley, in the London Borough of Barnet. The appointments are free of charge, although donations to our charity are always welcome.
Please see our website for further details of this service and the London Tinnitus Support Group meetings, which also take place regularly at the JDA: http://www.jdeaf.org.uk/services/tinnitus-management -

Social group for people with a hearing loss
People have told us that they often find it very hard to join in at the social and discussion groups they belong to because they miss what is being said. We listened, and created our own! It's held at our premises in Woodside Park Road in North Finchley on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 2pm, and is facilitated to ensure people speak one at a time so no-one is left out. If you have a hearing loss, do come along - we would love to welcome you!
-
Our Hearing Connect Book Club is facilitated to ensure that people speak one at a time and that everyone is included. If you'd like to come along to our warm, friendly environment to chat about books chosen by the group, the next one to read is Digital Fortress by Dan Brown and the group next meets on the 9th May at 10am.
Please let us know if you'd like to attend - contact Gabrielle Radnor on 020 8446 0214 or gabrielle@jdeaf.org.uk
We would love to welcome you!

There's nothing quite as wonderful as helping people who never thought they'd use the phone again, or chat with their family members around the table or hear the television. Watching their eyes light up when they hear like they never thought they would is indescribably heartwarming. Here's some feedback from some of our clients who've tried equipment:
“The consultant could not have been more helpful – I am so appreciative. The possibility of having a proper phone conversation will be so very reassuring. Thank you for your time and patience Gabbie.”
“I had valuable advice from Judith and am extremely pleased with the TV listener she recommended. It was good to try out equipment before ordering particularly as I had not been satisfied with what I already had.”
“Yvette was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t ask for anyone more efficient and charming!”
"Just a short note to record how much my wife and l appreciated the meeting we had at your offices yesterday. Without over stating the case, it proved to be one of the most informative sessions l have experienced. The key to the success being the kindness, patience but most importantly, the time you invested when demonstrating the range of equipment which could transform my hearing ability. The meeting was calm, ideally paced, with the technical details comprehensively demonstrated and when necessary rechecked to ensure my understanding."
“The advice and help I and my wife received this morning from Mrs Radnor was truly exceptional. We are most grateful. Thank you.”
“Excellent service – very helpful. More than I expected. I am absolutely delighted with this service and would recommend it to anyone.”
“Gabrielle was absolutely charming and really helpful. I feel much more upbeat than before we came.”
“Impeccable service. The people I saw were very helpful and knowledgeable. They went out of their way to make me feel relaxed. 110% in everything.”
"I am so deeply moved by the sensitivity and kindness of all of you at JDA even though the tears make it difficult for me to see what I am writing. The words are blurred but I can feel what I am writing and I am writing what I feel and that’s what is important to me. I’m so glad I found you and all who work at JDA." -
We are proud of the high quality deaf awareness training courses that we run, and are delighted to share some recent feedback comments that demonstrate the impact our training has on delegates:
"Very interesting!! I learned new ideas and it really changed my perspective towards hearing loss."
"Everything was excellent. I really enjoyed the training and am very excited to put it into practice at work."
"The trainers were very knowledgeable and the course has helped to develop my ability. There was good time management and they made you want to go on listening." -

Beatrice and the Rescue Cats Monthly Donation Scheme
Thank you to all our loyal supporters who donated £201 this month towards helping Beatrice in her never ending rescue of cats in our area who have been neglected, dumped, abused or are from owners no longer able to care for them. The stories can be truly terrible. Those of us who know her know she works virtually 24/7 in her endless and often thankless mission,
We also collect good quality cat food and have 2 drop off points. Perhaps a few extras in your run up to Christmas shopping trolley? Or good clean items for her car boot sales?
Or join our Monthly Donation Scheme with a regular amount from as little as £1 pm, or a one off Donation. Just ask me for details.
if anybody is thinking of adopting a cat please also let me know, but please not as a Christmas present -
How we helped a deafblind client the other day.
We were delighted to make such a significant difference to the life of one of our clients last week, who has a severe hearing loss and is also blind. We facilitated his acquisition of an Orcam My Eye.
It allows access to written text via a tiny camera, attached to any pair of glasses, which takes a photo of the text and reads it out loud. It can also recognise faces and identify products.
He used it with a neckloop, with his hearing aids on the loop setting, and later emailed us to say he'd read the newspaper on the way home!!! -
One of the most important jobs we do is to deliver our bespoke Deaf Awareness Training courses to nurses, carers, care managers and teachers (amongst others) who work in residential homes, day centres and schools.
Our professional courses enable delegates to understand how having a hearing loss affects people practically and emotionally and to improve communication, inclusion, access and quality of life for those in their care. -
Beatrice and the Rescue Cats Monthly Donation Scheme
Thank you to all the wonderful and loyal donors who contributed £368 this month. With particular thanks to our lovely couple who contribute generously every time they are here in the UK. That figure doesn’t include the bag of loose change they also donated which Beatrice finds so useful for her car boot sales.
Anybody like to join our Scheme? 😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
