Pleasant stroll/meander around the paths west of Salhouse

Canal and sea wall walk Higham
A lovely circular walk from Higham to Gravesend taking in the canal and sea wall. The day we done it there was a cacophony of frogs ‘singing’ , many new born foals, we also heard a cuckoo and saw a golden pheasant wandering on the marsh land
-
Now a nature reserve it was formerly a quarry and adjoins the sea wall and salt marshes . A haven of peace and quiet , apart from the sometimes loud squawking of seagulls and the sound of avocets, skylarks and various other wildlife . A lovely refreshing walk but beware no facilities .
-
Now we are able to go out , whilst social distancing , a little longer than an hour - we have been out for short drives to continue our walks
Here’s some photos of Lullingstone castle and park -
Reculver Towers
Never been before and really enjoyed the walk along the water front. Surrounded by bird song and various sightings of wading and others birds, from oyster catchers to kestrels, robins to curlews. Nice visitor centre and cafe . So relaxing 😎 I will be back -
My friend and I are looking to go away somewhere in the UK (preferably by the coast). Has anyone got any recommendations please? Somewhere which has nice restaurants, maybe some bars/pubs.
Thanks! -
Although we visited on a bright but cold winters day the park was surprisingly busy, mainly with dog walkers, some joggers and Mums with pushchairs. I suspect that coming back in spring we will find many bird watchers and nature lovers as it is a site that apparently sees rare species of bird and plant.
Partly a former MOD site it is now surrounded with modern houses where the ‘gun’ sits rather oddly. Plenty of free parking but no ‘facilities’. Unless you continue out onto the promenade back towards Thorpe Bay

Not the ideal time to go to a seaside resort you would think but for a three day romantic break it was just the ticket for myself and hubby. Got back this morning before the storm hits again.

Horsey Mill and Seals (Edited)
Very cold and windy day to visit the Norfolk Coastal area.
Horsey Mill
Having been stood still and silent for 75 years since 1943 when she was struck by lightning, she has been brought back to life and is now complete with a winding cap and turning sails bringing a whole new visitor experience to this wonderful Grade II* Listed Building.
The seals at Horsey on the east coast of Norfolk are a spectacular sight. This is one of the best places to watch seals and their pups during the winter months. -
National Trust property in Norfolk, seen in partial close-down for winter months so not all in lower levels could be seen, kitchen etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blickling_Hall

Some Snapshots from around Brixton Market

London Bridge, Early Morning Impressions
It's London Bridge area again, but well, it is where we work.
-
I know this isn’t exactly in anyone’s local area.. but just thought I’d just one of the greatest places in the UK - Cape Cornwall!
I used to stay in the cottage (first one on the right) every year as a child. Highly recommend spending 8 hours driving down there for the views 🤣

Fort William is a town in the western Scottish Highlands, on the shores of Loch Linnhe. It’s known as a gateway to Ben Nevis, the U.K.’s highest peak, and Glen Nevis valley, home to Steall Falls. In the town centre, the West Highland Museum focuses on regional life and history.
-
Surprisingly everyone who boards the cruise boat on the loch is able to see 'Nessie' as shown in this short video 😂

Just outside the town stands the monument framed by Highland scenery and a few hundred yards from the Viaduct featured in the Harry Potter films

Mallaig. A Port in Lochaber. Scotland
A small area with under a thousand inhabitants on the West Coast of the Highlands and the terminus of the West Highland Railway line. The Mallaig railway was used in the filming of the Harry Potter films.
It is common to see seals in the bay as shown in the video attached. -

Emmetts Garden (Edited)
After going to the pinetum on Wednesday I decided to pop down to Emmetts yesterday while the sun was still shining
Am including the link to the website

Visiting this today was perfect. The true autumn colours were spectacular, the reflections in the lakes and the sound and sight of the Goldcrests and Nuthatches in the trees. Magical.

'Showcase...' group setup -- thoughts
I realised something this morning. On the Scooploop mobile app, in the Community Feed, there is a small sub-window publicising 'Suggested Groups' -- as shown in the screengrab below. These eight featured groups (selected from a current total of fifty) are obviously ones I do not already belong to.
What I realised today is that all eight are 'open' groups, so new members can immediately browse to see if they wish to join.
I also realised that this group is missing out on this free publicity, because it is 'private'.
I think this would be a great group for Scooploop to be promoting, as it can highlight that the site is for the whole country, as well as being local. (Unless people join a group, they cannot see that people are active nationwide.) But they won't be able to do this while it remains 'Private'. Just a thought. This discussion is now closed.

The city from a different perspective (Edited)
Weather was lovely today so had a stroll.
I live in a very corporate part of London (where you see those office buildings) and people are usually very confused.. “oh.. people live there? I thought people only work here”
It’s indeed very hectic, very busy during the week days, travelling via tube is terrible in the mornings and after work but hey! Not complaining as we have everything at distance.
And the better part? I walk 10 mins the other direction and it’s completely different! So peaceful, so calm and the view of the city is.. well i can appreciate it:p

I walk most weekdays in the countryside with groups or on my own, these are some of the photos that I have taken over the past few months, most have been taken on my phone apart from one that has myself in it, no prizes for guessing which one is me.

Changes!! (Edited)
Some of you might of noticed the change in the introduction to the group, this was because someone complained to admin. No one had said anything to me or commented about it being not local on the post. If you are unhappy with the group please contact me directly.
I hope that now the restrictions have changed that more members will see fit to post something, some members have not been active at all.

South London, River Wandle Valley (Edited)
I posted that on my profile recently, I take the liberty of sharing here so I don't have to repost all the photos, hope that is ok (if not @RayPro feel free to remove)

Known for its apparent elderly population Eastbourne always seems to have something going on. The pier, several theatres, cinemas and the bandstand. Many superb eateries, events at the Wish Tower and beautiful promenade walks from Sovereign quay round as far as Beachy Head.
-
Formerly known as Tankerton Towers, between Whistable and Tankerton slopes, this 'Castle' isn't really a castle, but it looks the part. Surrounded by a compact garden and including a bowling green.

Loughborough Junction, Brixton, Part II (Edited)
Following up on my last post I don't want people to think that Loughborough Junction is just parkland ;)
However there is much more to find in that area than the popular press pretends it is ( which always refers to the area as a drug and crime spot )
Here are some fotos I made this morning on my way to work.
Fotos:
- Jamaican shops in Coldharbour Lane
- The "super slim" building was constructed like this because of the railway line crossing the old victorian area.
- The train station after which the area is named ( and two of the 7 railway bridges )
- The actual "junction", a crossroad between three railway bridges, with loughborough estate in the background
( the broken shop frond is the location of a former "David Greig" supermarket, ( David Greig opened his first shop down the road from here in 1870 )
- Clockwork Studios, founded in 1900 (I think), formerly Fred Karno’s Vaudeville theatre group ( people like Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel used to practise there)
- The Art Bridge in Cambria Road ( designed by local artists in 2014 ) -
Another 20 mile drive from home Westerham is a village in the Sevenoaks district. Quaint, beautiful and historic. A beautiful church , Quebec House (National Trust). Lovely eateries and shops, local footpaths and friendly folk.

Although in another county. Through the Dartford tunnel. It was just 20 miles to visit this unusual park in the countryside of Essex.
With genuine tudor houses moved there from areas where an extension to airport was coming through, an estuary and small marina, cafe, free car parking and splendid walkways. A lovely day out. -
Rochester . Kent (Edited)
Although this town's main pull is its history the updates and regeneration of the town, including a new railway station, have made it even more pleasing and popular.
With its riverside location, castle and cathedral it is now worth visiting more than ever. It has regular festivals and celebrations and many Dickensian themed shops and oldy worldy charm. At the moment the knife angel is on show in the cathedral grounds. 27ft tall and made from weapons handed in or confiscated by police. Moves on 29th September. -
Mote Park . Maidstone (Edited)
About 25 miles from my home . A stunning park in the centre of a large busy town. Amazingly quiet. Recently updated. Still more to come. I visited yesterday after a gap of over 20 years. Beautiful lake, walks and peace and quiet. Only £2 to park for up to six hours from 10am.

Ruskin Park, Loughborough Junction, London
Those pictures are a couple of years old ( the Portico has now being renovated a bit ) but still, Ruskin Park ( Loughborough Junction, formerly also called East Brixton ) , 5 minutes walk from where I live, in spring.

Norwich City (Edited)
An ancient city with 2 cathedrals, a castle and a Norfolk Broads river all in the city itself.
The the photos are of
A view over the city taken from Mousehold heath, a large varied public heathland.
Elm hill, part of the old cobbled area with period buildings.
The river just past the main line railway station with its paths through the city.
Norwich Cathedral taken from the riverside over the Cathedral playing fields. Added more photos from around the area
This how I envisage the posts should be done, comments and questions can be made on the post.
