      Catalytic Converters

      Catalytic Converters
There has been a sharp increase in the number of catalytic converter thefts in the last year due to the value of the metals contained within them. Thefts are occurring at all times of the day and night frequently by gangs who’ll work together to remove them. A Catalytic Converter can be removed in under 2 minutes and repairs can cost upwards of a £1000. Hybrid models are particularly targeted.

As your local Amersham Neighbourhood Sergeant I am looking at ways in which the community can fight back and your help is needed to protect our communities from these criminals.

If you see something suspicious going on call it in. Additional patrols have been put in place at hotspot areas. Metal dealers have also been targeted and other areas and forces are co-ordinating a joint response to this.

Crime Reduction techniques also have a part to play. Consider where and how you park. Maybe it is time to actually use that garage (If the car will fit in it). Park close to the kerb, or in a location that restricts access underneath. Get your cat converter marked up

Last week 18 MOT stations in Chesham, Amersham, Prestwood, Hyde Heath, Coleshill, Gt Missenden, Penn and Holmer Green signed up to a new pilot scheme to mark identified targeted vehicles catalytic converters.

Toyota are also supporting SMART-Water marking schemes, which I will be taking full advantage of, and arranging events in areas that have been particularly targeted.

Unfortunately there are only a limited amount of kits so it will be a case of first come first served. Garages may charge an admin fee for the application of the kits and use of their ramps. These kits will leave SMARTWATER residue on the converters and tools that were used to remove them which can be traced back to the original vehicle.

This will assist the Police in identifying stolen property and bringing offenders to justice.

Keep those eyes peeled and stay safe

Changes To Front Counter Provision In Thames Valley

We will soon be changing some of the ways in which you can access our front counter services across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

Thames Valley Police is adapting to the different ways people now wish to make contact with us to ensure we continue to meet the changing needs of the diverse communities we serve.

These changes do not affect police officer numbers nor the number of operational police bases so you will not experience any difference in the ongoing commitment we have to visible policing in our Thames Valley communities.

There will continue to be good geographic coverage of front counters across the Thames Valley if you need to access one.

As part of these changes, the force will retain its front counters at Milton Keynes, Oxford, Reading, Slough, Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Abingdon, Banbury, Newbury, Loddon Valley and Maidenhead, however some will experience changes to their opening hours.

Front counters at Amersham, Bicester, Bracknell, HQ South in Kidlington, and Witney will close. These counters have already been closed since March 2020 due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, with the exception of HQ South in Kidlington, which reopened following an initial closure.

These changes, which were subject to a public consultation, will be implemented from 30 August 2021.

Further details are available on our information page.

There are a number of really convenient alternative ways to contact Thames Valley Police.

More and more, people contact us online and by phone. You can also access a number of our core services on our website. This includes reporting non-emergency crimes or incidents, anti-social behaviour, applying for firearms licensing, telling us about something of concern or updating us on a crime report, among many other functions.

Further information about when and how to make a report to police is available on our website.

Our non-emergency number is 101. In an emergency always dial 999.Email tracking gif

      Theft from Motor Vehicles

With the weather warming up, can I remind everybody not to leave valuables on display in your cars whilst visiting local public spaces and beauty spots. We are seeing an increase in these thefts which could have been avoided by moving them from public view.

Never leave possessions in your vehicle. If you must, lock them in the boot. Always take personal correspondence, cash, credit or debit cards with you. Never leave any documentation pertaining to the vehicle, service record, registration document etc.

Remove all signs of Sat Navs from the car.

No matter how briefly you are going to be away from your car, you must remember to lock all doors and windows, close the sunroof and secure the boot.

Always fit and set security devices.

Remember to always remove the ignition key when you park, even if your car is on the drive or when you are filling up with fuel at a garage.

Don't forget to remove mobile phones and detachable entertainment systems, if fitted. Take note of the model and serial numbers of these items and property mark them.

Consider having your windows and headlamps security etched.

When driving, keep all valuables out of site or locked in the boot.

When parking away from home try to use a supervised car park. Ensure that the area is well lit and that access is safe, as you may be returning to your vehicle in darkness.

Hrh The Duke of Edinburgh Funeral To Take Place In Windsor (Edited)

The Royal Household has announced that the funeral of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh is to take place in Windsor on Saturday 17 April.
The Ceremonial Royal Funeral will take place at St George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle.

In line with the Royal Household’s wishes and Government advice, Thames Valley Police is asking the public not to gather at Royal residences, such as Windsor Castle, at this time and to continue to follow public health advice particularly on avoiding meeting in large groups and minimising travel.

The force is also supporting the Royal Household in asking that floral tributes are not laid at Windsor Castle and to encourage people to consider making a donation to a charity.
An online book of condolence has been set up for anyone wishing to pay their respects to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

During this time of national mourning, there is an increased police presence and a broad range of security measures in place in and around Windsor. Some of these measures are visible, such as the extensive network of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, Close Circuit Television (CCTV) and Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) barriers, as well as our Mounted Section, whilst some measures are unseen.

Thames Valley Police Assistant Chief Constable Ben Snuggs, strategic commander for the funeral, said: “We understand that people will want to pay their respects to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and to the Royal Family during this time of national mourning.

“However, we would ask that the public respect the Royal Household’s wishes and the Government advice by minimising travel and not gathering in groups. Instead, we would ask people to use the online book of condolence which has been set up by the Royal Household.

“There will continue to be a police presence in Windsor in the lead up to and on the day of the funeral as part of our measures to ensure public health and safety and protective security.

“Our thoughts remain with the Royal Family and all those affected at this very difficult time."

      Worried About Getting Hacked?

      Worried About Getting Hacked?

      Dear Subscriber,

Over 15,000 hacked email and social media accounts reported in one year.

If a hacker got into your email or social media account, what would they find? Health and banking information? Names and contact details for your friends and family? Private photos and messages? For most people, it’s at least one of those.

Your email and social media accounts contain a wealth of personal information about you, which makes them a lucrative target for cyber criminals. Between February 2020 and February 2021, Action Fraud received 15,214 reports about email and social media account hacking. The majority of reports (88%) were made by individuals, with 12% of reports being made by businesses. Analysis of the crime reports revealed that Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat were the most affected social media accounts, with phishing messages being the most common tactic used by cyber criminals to lure unsuspecting victims.

The motivation behind the hacks are varied and can range from financial gain, to revenge or personal amusement. Some victims are extorted for money, whilst others have their accounts used to send malicious links to their contacts. One victim who had multiple email and social media accounts hacked paid over £2,000 to regain access to them. Another victim reported that her hacked Facebook account was used to trick her friends into sending money into a PayPal account they thought belonged to her.

Secure your email and social media accounts in just a few minutes. Here's what you need to do:

1: Use a strong and separate password for your email, as well as other important accounts, such as your banking or social media accounts.

2: Enable two-factor authentication (2FA). It will help to stop hackers from getting into your online accounts, even if they have your password.

3: If you can't access your account, search the company's online support or help pages. You'll find information about how to recover your account.

For detailed instructions on how to reset your password or enable 2FA on your accounts, visit: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/secureyouraccounts

      Distraction Burglaries and Cold Callers

      Distraction Burglaries and Cold Callers
Our detectives are currently investigating a recent attempted burglary which occurred on the 18/3/2021 at around 5 p.m. in the Gerrards Cross area where two males claiming to be from the Utilities Company have come to check the meter of the victim's house. The males entered the house and a short while later left after were concerns raised. The males were in a grey Ford Transit van.

If you do get any unannounced visits do not be afraid ask for identification. Be aware that ID can be easily faked. Check what details they have, name of resident, postcode, account numbers. If they are chancers then they will most likely make their excuses and leave. If you suspect they are false don't be afraid to give the police a call and check with the company that they claim that they are representing. You may just have stopped burglars scoping your property.

Last year we received a large number of calls around doorstep sellers or Nottingham Knockers as they are commonly called. A number of calls complained of the aggressive nature of these people. One such case captured a spurned seller spitting on the victims car. In the last year I have heard peddlers claiming that this was part of their probation. I have double checked this and this is certainly something that Probation would not promote.

There are some good natured people who want to help peddlers and see it as people just trying to make some money. However think by supporting peddlers, you are encouraging them to come to your area, and this could result with elderly or vulnerable person in your neighbourhood being put at risk of being taken advantage of.

      Know your rights:
Under the Peddlars Act. Doorstop sellers should obtain a permit from their local police station. This hardly ever happens. Cold calling is the act of making uninvited visits to your home with the intention of selling goods or services. It is not illegal and does not require a licence.

However, the law states that a trader who ignores a resident's request to leave and not return commits a criminal offence under the provisions of The Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

You can express your request not to receive visits from cold calling doorstep traders by taking part in Buckinghamshire and Surreys Trading Standards ‘No cold calling sticker scheme’.

Traders who sell goods door to door are required to have a Pedlar's Certificate issued by the Police, except for cold calls offering services like home maintenance work. Please note a Pedlar's Certificate is not a guarantee of legitimacy.

Stay safe, do not rush into making hasty decisions and lets look out for our friends, neighbours and family by making them aware of the potential scams and their rights.

New legislation to address the plant health threat posed by Xylella

Press Release from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 16 February 2021

New legislation to address the plant health threat posed by Xylella

The Government has today (16 February) announced plans to address the plant health threat posed by Xylella, a key step for setting plant health legislation tailored to GB risks.

A new Statutory Instrument will come into force next month to introduce stricter measures against Xylella fastidiosa (“Xylella”) - a bacterium which causes disease in a wide range of woody commercially grown plants such as grapevine, citrus, olive and several species of broadleaf trees widely grown in the GB, as well as many shrubs and herbaceous plants.

The new changes have been identified as priorities for improving the GB’s plant biosecurity in response to known threats, protecting GB businesses, society and the environment in the short term, as well as in the future.

New requirements will apply to those countries where Xylella is known to be present and will include:

Only allow imports of Polygala and Coffea from countries where Xylella is known not to occur.
More stringent requirements for the import of Olive, Almond, Lavender, Rosemary and Nerium oleander from countries where Xylella is known to occur.
Allow imports under certain conditions including inspections of the place of production and the surrounding area, testing, pre-export inspections and a one-year quarantine period prior to import.
The existing requirements for high-risk plants from countries where Xylella is not known to occur will be retained, which include annual official inspection, with sampling and testing of the plants concerned.

Biosecurity minister Lord Gardiner of Kimble said:

“We take the nation’s biosecurity very seriously. That is why we are increasing restrictions and requirements for the import of high-risk Xylella host plants to reduce the chances that Xylella is introduced into Great Britain.

“These measures will enhance the level of protection against this devastating disease and are necessary to protect our country.”

Chief Plant Health Officer Nicola Spence said:

“Xylella is not currently in GB and it is essential that all of us with an interest in a healthy, thriving plant and horticulture industry do all we can to keep it that way and protect our environment and businesses.

“To keep our country protected, it is vital that all plant importers and traders welcome these new measures and continue to make careful decisions on sourcing plants, particularly those from countries where Xylella is present.”

Xylella is continuing to spread in Europe with outbreaks of the disease occurring in Italy, France, Spain, Germany and Portugal.

The pathogen is not known to be present in the GB, but the possibility remains of Xylella arriving in the GB on high-risk hosts, such as olive, and those plant species commonly associated with outbreaks in the EU. The long latency period of Xylella means that, without additional requirements, it could be carried into non-infected countries via imports of plants, long before the infection is identified.

These new measures will cover GB. Following a consultation process with the Plant Health Advisory Forum and individual businesses, the new measures give a high level of assurance that imports are from areas where Xylella is not present, while also providing the desired level of protection for plants imported from countries and areas where Xylella is present.

New legislation is due to come into force on 4 March 2021.

      Notes to editors:

      · A copy of the regulations is available at: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/uksi/2021/136.

      · New legislation is due to come into force on 4 March 2021, amending the retained Phytosanitary Controls Regulation (Commission Implementing Regulation 2019/2072).

      National ANPR Survey (Edited)

We are looking to get your thoughts around the use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR).

ANPR technology is used by police forces across the UK – including Hampshire Constabulary to help detect, deter and disrupt criminality, including organised crime groups and terrorists. The registration plate cameras are governed by strict codes of practice. They are most commonly used to alert officers to stolen vehicles, vehicles that have been involved in crime or to help locate missing people. The data they collect can also be used in investigations.

You’ve probably seen how ANPR works from TV programmes or you may even use a petrol station or car park which uses the system to keep you safe. Just in case you haven’t, we’ve made a short film to show how ANPR Is used. The video shows the use of ANPR in West Midlands Police in locating a missing person. To watch it, click here

Update from Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire Council

First of all, thank you all very much for the efforts you have made to observe the current lockdown. I know that it has been tough for many people particularly when they have missed seeing family and friends. The good news is that we are beginning to see the benefits from this lockdown with some falls in infection rates across Buckinghamshire.

As I’m sure that you are aware, yesterday the government announced the restrictions that will apply to different parts of England when we leave the current lockdown next Wednesday (2 December). The government’s view is that Buckinghamshire, and indeed most of the south of England, should be in what is called ‘Tier 2’. This is based on a variety of key measures as defined by Public Health England. The Tiers define what we are allowed to do and not allowed to do. Nearby Slough is however in Tier 3 with further, tougher restrictions.

Frankly, I am disappointed that we are now in Tier 2. I had hoped that we would return to Tier 1. However, the government is determined to continue to maintain the pressure to control this horrid virus. Each council area will be reviewed after 14 days to see if the Tier that they are in should change. I am determined that Buckinghamshire should set itself the objective of returning to Tier 1 as soon as possible. This goal is important, not just for our own personal freedoms but also to protect our businesses, economy and jobs.

Therefore, it is really important that I ask you to observe the new Rules and let’s work together across Buckinghamshire to reach Tier 1 as soon as possible.

      The situation in Buckinghamshire

We are seeing the number of cases starting to fall in Buckinghamshire. The latest data shows that the number of cases per 100,000 people in Buckinghamshire is now 125.7, having fallen from 161 the previous week. You can see the latest figures on our website including the number of cases in your local area.

In Tier 2, these are the main rules that will be in place in Buckinghamshire from Wednesday 2 December:

You cannot socialise with anyone you don’t live with indoors.
People should work from home where they’re able to, in agreement with their employer.
‘Rule of 6’ applies outdoors – don’t meet in groups of more than six people and only meet people you don’t live with outside.
Businesses and venues including places of worship can open and operate in a COVID-secure manner, other than those still closed by law, e.g. nightclubs.
Our Leisure Centres and Libraries that were closed during lockdown will reopen operating with COVID-secure measures (check our website for full details).
Pubs and bars will stay closed unless operating as restaurants. Hospitality can only serve alcohol with substantial meals. They must close by 11pm, with last orders at 10pm.
Organised sport outdoors can continue and some indoor sports can also take place if it’s possible for people to avoid mixing with others they don’t live with – see more detail below.
You can travel and stay overnight somewhere but you should continue to follow the Tier 2 rules wherever you go. You should avoid travel to an area in Tier 3 unless it’s necessary.

You can find out more about what the rules are in each Tier on the government’s website.

‘Hands, Face, Space’ applies at all times:

Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly
Wear a face covering where required unless you’re exempt
Keep 2 metres (6 feet) away from anyone you don’t live with

It’s a relief to see that the cases numbers are starting to fall across Buckinghamshire but it’s essential we remain mindful of the virus at all times, and the ease with which it spreads. We risk being moved into a higher Tier if our case numbers rise too much again, and that is something we desperately want to avoid here in Buckinghamshire.

Remember – if anyone in the home develops symptoms of coronavirus then the whole household must isolate immediately (which means not going out or seeing anyone else).

You must book a test for anyone with symptoms as soon as possible (phone 119 if you can’t book online or book via the NHS COVID-19 app).

How we’re helping vulnerable families this winter

The last few months have been especially hard for local families that were already struggling to make ends meet, and we launched our ‘Helping Hand’ programme over the October half term to make sure any family finding it hard to put food on the table during the school holidays could be supported.

I’m pleased to let you know we’re now extending our ‘Helping Hand’ programme across the whole of winter.

With funding from the government’s Winter Grant and working with our partners we will ensure that vulnerable children in Buckinghamshire will be warm and well-fed this winter. The Helping Hand programme includes issuing food vouchers to all children who have free school meals so they can be fed through the school holidays. Any family that is struggling will be able to call a dedicated Helping Hand advice line if they need extra support, our website and helping hands team will offer support and advice. Our 16 Community Boards will also be working with partners to support local activities.

We will provide more detail about this scheme in future updates.

And can you help us give vulnerable local children a better Christmas?

As you may know, each year we run an annual Christmas present appeal for children in Bucks who might otherwise not get much, or anything at all, at Christmas. This year’s campaign run, as ever, by Buckinghamshire Councillors Paul Irwin, Mark Shaw and Ashley Waite – is underway and like everything else, we’re having to do things a bit differently this year due to the pandemic. For the first time, we’ve started a JustGiving fund to get presents bought and delivered direct. And for people who would prefer to choose a gift themselves for a child in need, we can provide details of where to send it, or where you can drop it off.

Your generosity in previous years has made a huge difference to Christmas for some of our most disadvantaged children. I know this year has been tremendously hard on us all, but if you are in a position to donate a present, it would be hugely appreciated. All the detail you need is here on our website.

      Bucks Business Grants

In case you missed it last time, I want to make sure all our businesses are aware that through Bucks Business Grants, we’ve got two support grant schemes open at the moment. The Local Restrictions Support Grant is for businesses that have had to close because of the restrictions. This is linked to rateable value and offers financial support for businesses that are closed due to the restrictions.

If your business doesn’t qualify for the Local Restrictions Support Grant but has still suffered significant losses as a result of the latest restrictions, you might be eligible for the Additional Restrictions Grant. This grant is for any business, including the self-employed; it’s not linked to rateable value and you don’t have to have premises. Applications for this one-time payment grant – for businesses of any sector – are open until Friday 18 December.

Please take a look at this section on our website for the full details and how to apply.

More tips for staying well this winter

Supporting our frontline health services, including A&E and GPs, allows them to continue to run smoothly now and when the COVID-19 vaccinations begin. Surge In Online Shopping Fraud

Reports of online shopping fraud have surged by 30% over the pandemic as many of us continue to shop online in light of current restrictions.

Figures from Action Fraud show that criminals conned 17,407 shoppers out of almost £13.5 million over the Christmas period last year, an increase of over 20% when compared to the same period in 2018.

Action Fraud is warning the public to take extra care when shopping online, ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, as shoppers search for bargains and gifts for loved ones in the run up to Christmas.

Top tips to shop online securely this festive season:

      Where to shop:
Making a purchase from an online store you haven’t used before? Carry out some research first, or ask a friend or family member if they’ve used the site and about their experiences before completing the purchase.

      Your information:
Only create an account if necessary or to save you effort if you’re going to use that site a lot in the future. Be cautious if the website asks you for details that are not required for your purchase, such as your mother’s maiden name or the name of your primary school.

      Payments:
If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, ensure that the webpage where you enter your payment details is secure (website address starts with “https”). Using a credit card to pay online also means that should the worst happen and your payment details are compromised, your main bank account won’t be directly affected.

      Phishing:
Some of the messages you receive about amazing offers may contain links to fake websites. Not all links are bad, but if you’re unsure, don’t use the link – go separately to the website. Report any suspicious emails you receive by forwarding them to: report@phishing.gov.uk You can also report suspicious text messages by forwarding them to 7726.

Protect Your Passw0rd National Campaign Launched By Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch launches PROTECT YOUR Pa$$W0rD campaign with 3 quick and easy steps

As we spend more time at home and on our online devices, over one third (34%) of people say that they’re more concerned about cybercrime than physical crime and a startling 1 in 5 people are a victim of cybercrime!* You could be more at risk than you might think.

If strengthening your passwords is something you keep putting off, or you feel overwhelmed by the sea of online security information, you’re not alone.

As part of our Cyberhood Watch initiative, launched in 2019 in partnership with Avast, we have launched a PROTECT YOUR Pa$$W0Rd campaign that targets both the overwhelmed and complacent, providing everyone with 3 easy steps to be more secure online.

PROTECT YOUR Pa$$W0Rd in 3 easy steps
Create a separate password for your email account
      Use 3 random words
      Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA)
To find out more about how to do each step visit our Password Protection page on our website . https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/passwords

But we won’t stop there! Whilst taking those 3 easy steps will go a long way to protecting yourself online, we want to protect not just you but your whole community! To do this, we are asking you to spread the word and help protect your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours by sharing these 3 easy steps with 3 others.

To share with others you can forward this email to at least 3 of your friends, share the information from our Password Protection page in your local newsletter, or share our campaign on your social media channels using our Protect your Pa$$W0Rd Campaign Pack, https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/sites/default/files/documents/2020-11/NW%20Passwords%20Social%20Media%20Pack_2.pptx

      More about the campaign
Our campaign will run on social media for 4 weeks from 9th November 2020. We are targeting both Neighbourhood Watch members and non-members alike with two different attitudes to online security.

For those that are unsure and overwhelmed by an abundance of advice, we want to cut though the noise and simplify the confusion, so they feel empowered to take action.

And for those that think ‘it won’t happen to me’ we want to shock them into action, so that they realise how prevalent the problem is, even amongst young people.

We have created social media animated and still graphics targeted to both those audiences, supported by further information detailing how and why to take each step on our dedicated Password Protection page.

Download our Protect your Pa$$W0Rd Campaign Pack to share the campaign across your networks using email, whatsapp, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and in newsletters.

Why not go one step further and share our Protect your Pa$$W0Rd Press Release locally and don’t forget to let us know about any local press you are able to generate.

Visit our Protect your PA$$word campaign page to find out more.

Chiltern South Bucks Burglary Reduction Update

You will often hear about the police working in partnership with agencies to combat crime. With burglary the most important partner we can work with is you! By this I mean getting you to look out for yours and your neighbours properties.
Last year we worked closely with Neighbourhood Watch to get more people signed up to the scheme. In the last year we developed a police operations with NHW, where members of NHW were briefed with relevant intelligence of issues that were happening in our area with a dedicated response team to deal with your calls who are on patrol in the afternoons into the evenings.
      Improving your security
There are a host of things that we can do to make our properties safer. I am going to concentrate on 6 low cost areas which can prevent some burglaries from occurring.
1: Keep your doors locked at all times. This is the first port of call for a burglar. I have reviewed several cases CCTV where offenders brazenly pull onto the victims driveway, check the door handle and then call at the address.
Challenge your family when they leave the doors unlocked. This is a common problem as I have experienced.
2: Use your Window locks. It’s all very well having window locks but are you using them. Again this is a common method of entry so let’s make sure that the burglar can’t just open it and wipe the glass away. If it is locked there will be an increased risk of DNA transfer. It’s coming into winter so let’s lock the window and have the key in a safe place nearby.
3: Keyless technology. Make sure that your keys are in a safe location where car thieves can’t target them.Keyless car thefts. With the innovation of keyless cars we are finding a huge increase in cars being stolen without burglars even having to enter the home address. Investigations have shown that criminals are going up to front doors and scanning car keys through the front door. As people start to adapt to this new threat so do the criminals. A recent case showed a burglar going to the rear of the property and using garden furniture as a way to get higher to try and obtain a signal.
Please be careful with your car keys, at home and when out and about, and be aware of the risks when left next to the front door on the sideboard or a coat pocket. Metal Faraday tins can be used to block car keys signals (Cost around £12 )or a signal blocker pouches can be purchased (for around £6).
4: Lock your gate. Stop people from having free access to the rear or side of your house. Go one step further and get pet friendly prick a strip for the top of your walls, gates and fences.
5: Keep a light on principles. Make it looks like someone is up and around. Use timer switches, have a radio on or use a fake TV light display to give the illusion you are in. Burglars do not want to get caught and will target somewhere else. Top tip (from Mr G) If you have Amazon Alexa, you can say 'open burglar deterrent' and it will make the house sound like it is occupied including the occasional dog barking. It will remain on until you arrive home and turn it off.
6; Set up a Neighbourhood Watch. A Neighbourhood Watch is a great way to get to know your neighbours so that you can build up community resilience. The scheme is free and some studies have shown that you could reduce the chance of being a victim by 25%. Neighbourhood Watch schemes are owned and operated by their members, supported by the Police with crime information and advice. If you are interested then please contact the Buckinghamshire Council Community Safety Team on ‪01494 586535‬ or e-mail communitysafety.csb@buckinghamshire.gov.uk
The scheme gives you the confidence to call in suspicious incidents. You know your neighbourhood better than anyone else. If something is not sitting right with you, act on this and do not be afraid to call the police. If you think it could be a burglary then call 999.
All 6 of these techniques are almost cost free. If you are thinking of spending some money then a burglar alarm system is great. We are having excellent results on the back of video doorbells and the price of these are around £50, which is affordable, and gives you an improved sense of security.
So let's make it as hard as possible for these low life to get away with your hard earned goods.
      Yours sincerely

Chiltern and South Bucks Burglary Update 23rd October 2020

With the dark nights and mornings upon us, we expect the number of burglaries to increase during the autumn and winter seasons. As a result of this we are looking at working with residents in making their neighbourhoods safer. Analysis shows that it is criminals from around the south of England have been targeting properties in our areas.

This October we will be targeting areas of repeat burglaries in an effort in making people aware of the risks. Rather than sending out a leaflet saying get an alarm and turn your lights on I felt it more beneficial to send out this letter which will give you information in regards to current trends and techniques that burglars have been using and some cost effective measures to protect you and your family.

This week our PCSO's have completed targeted crime prevention in parts of Amersham, Burnham, Chesham, Chalfont St Peter, Denham, Gerrards Cross and Iver in the day time whilst additional patrols have been taking place in the afternoons and evenings by the constables which have already resulted in some good results.

The impact of having your house burgled is immense both financially and mentally. Yet it is common for us to delay doing things until a close friend or yourself has been subjected to such an attack. Having the time or money to buy security measures can also be a reason.

There are a host of things that we can do to make our properties safer which won't cost the earth. I am going to concentrate on 5 areas.

1: Keep your doors locked at all times. As I have shown this is the first port of call for a burglar. Challenge your family when they leave the doors unlocked. This I find is a common problem and a loud shout of burglar coming in

2: Use your Window locks. It’s all very well having window locks but are you using them. Again this is a common method of entry so let’s make sure that the burglar can’t just open it and wipe the glass away. If it is locked there will be an increased risk of DNA transfer. It’s coming into winter so let’s lock the window and have the key on a picture hook nearby.

3: Keyless car technology. Make sure that your keys are in a safe location where car thieves can’t target them. They do not even need to enter your house. Get a Faraday box for just over £10 and protect those keys.

4: Lock your gate. Stop people from having free access to the rear or side of your house.

5: Keep a light on principles. Make it looks like someone is up and around. Use timer switches, have a radio on or use a fake TV light display to give the illusion you are in. Burglars do not want to get caught and will target somewhere else.

Lets get these key areas right and make it as hard as possible for the burglars.

      Your sincerely

Fantastic Home Security Offer from Our Partner Era

Following on from our successful burglary campaign last month, our partners ERA are generously offering our members an amazing 50% limited offer on one of their simple home alarm systems.

ERA tells us “this alarm system is great for homes that don’t want SMART necessarily and just want an alarm to go off if someone opens the door or window and works with a remote controller. It includes a siren, door sensor, window sensor and 2 remote controls…. All of which is upgradeable to larger systems if the customer would like to.”

The discount will reduce the ERA-VALIANT-R kit to £64.99 (including VAT) on the Response site (RRP £129.99).

The voucher code for offer is NHWVALIANT (expires 1st November 2020)

You can find the product here: https://www.responseelectronics.com/shop/home-alarm-systems/wireless-alarms/easyhome-alarm-range/era-valiant-wireless-solar-siren-starter-alarm-kit/?v=ERA-VALIANT-R_RE

The exclusive Valiant NHW offer runs from 06th October 2020 and ends 1st November 2020 at 23:59pm. Please place your order on the website www.responseelectronics.com.
