My daughter is studying archeology. That was her dream faculty, but I have more and more doubts if she will ever find employment in her profession. Do you know anyone who works as an archaeologist?

Hi all!
I am looking to get a weekly wash and blow dry. Due to other commitments I cannot make it out to the salon so I am after hoping to find someone to visit me at home.
Sunday evenings would be perfect but I'm happy to be flexible.
If anyone has any recommendations please can you let me know? Thank you
We are looking for a good, reasonable priced builder for our kitchen refurbishment. We already bought our units and it is all in the booxes inside house. So it will be only fitting them along, changing the flooring, ceiling etc. Any recommendations for companies would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Taxi for airport drop off and pickup
Hello, can anyone recommend a reliable airport taxi service for a very early morning flight/return?
Hello! A friend and I are looking to start salsa dancing lessons. We're both total beginners so somewhere friendly and sociable would be preferred! Does anyone know of any friendly classes suitable for beginners in the Barnet area? Thanks!
Advice sought - using less plastic
Hello. I am looking for advice regarding using less plastic on a day to day basis. For the past year or so I have been using a bag for life and have only bought 1 or 2 plastic bags from the supermarket in an emergency. Are there any other tips you could share to help me cut back? Once you start noticing how much plastic is used, it's really scary... Thanks in advance!

Hi. I've unfortunately acquired a new set of neighbours and they are really making life difficult. Noisy, always in the garden until late at night, even during the week, swearing, kids running everywhere and screaming all day and all night. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? They rent so getting in touch with the landlord is an option, but I have no idea who the landlord/lady is. Any advice Scooploop neighbours?

Keeping fit with Rowena (whetstone and New Barnet)
Rowena is starting a new class on Thursday evenings in Whetstone - please see the attached details. If her Saturday morning DDmix classes are anything to go by, then I would highly recommend going as they are a good laugh and you leave feeling very energised (these are held at St Johns United Reformed Church on Mowbray Road, New Barnet).

I’ve recently ordered a bulky item from the States (via Ebay) and all seemed to be going well until it came to actual delivery. I received an email yesterday telling me that delivery had been attempted. I was somewhat surprised as at least one of us would have been home at any one point. In fact, when the ‘attempt’ was made, which was 15.25 according to the tracking info, both of us were in and the dogs always go bolo if someone rings the doorbell or knocks. I did some digging and it turns out that the delivery was being made by Yodel from their Waltham Cross depot. According to the tracking, I should have been left a card, received an email and/or a text message (according to Yodel’s website). I received none of these. I visited Yodel’s Facebook page and the comments on there are scathing to say the least in particular from customers who have received the same shoddy service as myself. There are also complaints about their website, their poor level of customer service and how difficult it is to speak to anyone. So, my question is whether anyone has had any similar issues with Yodel and how you managed to get a successful outcome (if at all!). I’d already decided to take a day off tomorrow and it will start with trying to sort this mess out. I’m anticipating all kinds of obstacles so would appreciate any advice you might have in the meantime. Grrrrrrrr.

A bit of keep fit with a smile
I would like to recommend an exercise class on Saturday mornings at 10.45 for an hour at St Johns United Reformed Church on Mowbray Road, New Barnet (between Somerset Road and Station Road). The class costs just £6 a session. The instructor, Rowena, delivered some flyers a year ago and her leaflet attracted my husband's attention because the exercises were described as 'low to medium impact' so he decided to go along and absolutely loved it. Second time around he persuaded me to go along - me - not interested, too lazy though I did have my own little way of keeping fit. Well, I've been going along ever since because it's a hoot, you leave smiling and you get fit along the way. The class is predominantly aerobics to music devised by Darcey Bussell (now Dame Darcey, of course) with some floor-work towards the end (well, muscle-stretching and so on). Anyway, you don't have to be mega-fit - my arm/leg co-ordination was rubbish (it's still a work in progress) and my husband is partially disabled so there you go. So, if you want to try and reduce a few post-Christmas wobbly bits or just get a bit fitter then this might be the class for you! Just bring an exercise mat if you have one and a bottle of water (Rowena normally has a couple of spare mats and there is a kitchen for tap-water). Rowena is an accredited instructor/teacher and if you wish to contact her then her number is 07710 972517.
I saw this and thought it could be useful for some. It's common sense really but some of us (me) lack common sense, or are smarter in other ways as I like to say 😉.
Barnet Christmas Fayre - this Sunday
For anyone going along, I hope you will come and watch the Natural Voices choir sing some Christmas songs whilst you sip your warming cup of mulled wine. We will be singing as follows:
2:30-3pm Christmas Courtyard (outside Barnet college in Wood Street opposite the Bull Theatre).
3:30-4pm The Spires shopping centre.
Hi everyone. Not sure whether many of you know about this, so I thought I'd post about it here. There is a Home Library Service in Barnet that helps people who are unable to attend the library in person (due to disability, old age or living in residential homes) gain access to library services. Once registered, you will receive a visit every 4 weeks with a selection of titles based on your personal preferences.
You can borrow CD's, DVD's, books/CD's in community languages and large print books as well as normal books.
If this is something you're interested in or know someone who is, it is easy to register here https://barnet.gov.uk/citizen-home/libraries/home-library-service.html or you can contact the Home Library Service directly on: 020 8359 3901 / homelibraryservice@barnet.gov.uk
Warning - East Barnet, Park Road area - vet advised beware poison
One of our dogs has just had a check-up at East Barnet vets and my husband was told that they have recently treated two seriously-ill dogs who appear to have ingested poison of some kind in the Park Road area (off Cat Hill). Also, three foxes were found dead along that way and were likely have done the same. On the face of it this looks like a deliberate act - keep your dogs safe!
Employment agencies local to Barnet
A friend of mine is looking to return to work within the Barnet/Enfield area and I was wondering whether anyone can recommend any local employment agencies (or, indeed, is aware of any opportunities for a receptionist with office/admin/client support).
DIY SOS arrives in East Barnet - an update
I shared a post a few weeks ago about this - here's the story behind it:
Do you know anyone who has a building trade that could assist the BBC’s DIY SOS in Barnet? Here's why...
On 22nd March 2017, 35 year old Kris Aves attended a London Police Commendation Ceremony and was awarded for his exceptional work as a Police Liaison Officer in the Metropolitan Police. What should have been a happy day shortly turned to horror as Kris became a victim of the terrorist attack on Westminster Bridge.
The horrific attack left 5 people dead, including Police Officer Keith Palmer and another dozen with very serious injuries including PC Kris. Kris was returning from the ceremony when he was suddenly mowed down by the terrorist in a speeding car. Kris took the brunt of the collision. It left him with two broken legs, numerous head injuries, a lacerated elbow, a damaged left shoulder, sternum, and tragically a damaged spinal cord which has left him wheel chair bound.
Kris now resides in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, undergoing daily routines to assist with his rehabilitation. His partner Marissa cares for son (6) and daughter (4) in their home in East Barnet which is now inaccessible to Kris and unsuitable for his rehabilitation. The home needs considerable adaption throughout, and a through floor lift before Kris can return to his loving family.
DIY SOS invites trades and to volunteer and companies to support this build for Police Officer Kris Aves and his family. The build will take place between 10th and 19th October.
To join the build you need to attend a Trades Day being held on 21st September. Please email diysosbarnet@bbc.co.uk as soon as possible with your trade details, availability and telephone contact details.

Hi all – I’m looking for advice on bulb-planting. Last year I got a variety of (white) Narcissus bulbs with the intention of creating visions of beauty dotted around the garden – they are one of my favourite flowers. Unfortunately, I never got around to planting them! Eedjit. I’ve kept them in a dry place in the house but I was wondering whether they would still be viable to plant this year. I’ve checked a sample and, although the outer layers are very dry and crumbly, they still appear to be quite firm in the centre. Whether this is enough to stimulate growth I don’t know. Is it time to start again? If you have used year-old bulbs successfully then I would appreciate your advice. Thanks.
For ladies in Barnet who love to sing
There's a small choir waiting for you on Tuesday evenings and the new term started tonight 8-9.30. I joined the choir last year and have enjoyed every minute. I've always loved to sing (it's my Welsh upbringing!) but just went along first of all because Lyonsdown is within walking distance. Anyway, I'm glad I did because they are a great bunch of people and we have a laugh whilst we learn a wide range of songs. The sessions are held at Lyonsdown church hall in New Barnet and cost £10 (the first session is free). Would heartily recommend.
I would like to recommend an exercise class run by the lovely Rowena on Saturday mornings. The class is held at 10.45 for an hour at St Johns United Reformed Church on Mowbray Road, New Barnet (between Somerset Road and Station Road). The classes cost £6 a session. Rowena delivered some flyers door-to-door early this year and her leaflet attracted my husband's attention because the exercises were described as low to medium impact (he is now partially disabled but works hard to try and regain his former fitness). So, he decided to go along and loved it. Second time around he persuaded me to go along and, I must say, I enjoyed it and I have been going ever since. I feel very energised after the class and give myself a self-satisfied pat on the back for getting myself off my backside. The class is predominantly aerobics to music with some floor-work towards the end (well, muscle-stretching and so on). It's suitable for all ages and levels of fitness (my 78-year-old mother- in-law goes along). Anyway, it's good fun and Rowena is very nice and encouraging - even when my arm/leg co-ordination is rubbish. If you are feeling down in the dumps (or know somebody who is feeling this way), I'd definitely recommend it - a great bunch of people who have a laugh (at ourselves usually!!). So, if you want to try and reduce a few wobbly bits or just get a bit fitter then this might be the class for you! Just bring an exercise mat if you have one and a bottle of water (Rowena normally has a couple of spare mats and there is a kitchen for tap-water). If you wish to contact her then her number (which is on the flyers so it's public anyway) is 07710 972517.
Short notice - gardening and cleaning services
It's a long shot but I was wondering whether anyone has any recommendations or contacts for this Tuesday morning. I need some jet-spraying done and the house cleaned. Why Tuesday? Because I'm on a day off and one of our dogs is getting his hair cut and will be away for a few hours. He would bark the house down at strangers and has this thing about being hosed down (i.e. he loves trying to catch the water) so it would be a nightmare on all fronts to have him around).
House clearance - advice please
I’m wondering whether anyone has used any house-clearance services and whether they have any tips or advice. I’m not asking for local recommendations here (as it is not local to Barnet) but more for personal experiences as this is uncharted territory for me. Sadly, my dad died as a result of an accident in 2015 and, like everyone who has been in this situation, we have had to deal with the aftermath of his death. My parents acquired a considerable amount of ‘stuff’ over the years and the task of dealing with this is really quite daunting (for a number of reasons). A great deal of this ‘stuff’ is likely to be of little value but some of it looks as though it could be valuable. Regardless, if anyone has used a house-clearance service of any form then I would appreciate your advice.
I'm sure some of you are already aware of this but when you try and message a friend directly you get the above and you can go no further. I submitted a feedback query and received the message below which may be helpful for anyone else who is in the same position:
This is a known issue; the error you're experiencing is only available in one place at the moment (as far as I'm aware - please correct me if I'm wrong) on the user profile. However, you can start a message from a couple of other places across the site.

Part time job or volunteer role
My daughter is home from university and is looking for part time/volunteer work for the rest of the summer (from now up until mid-end Sept) - does anyone know where abouts might be looking for a helper or part time staff? She likes animals and helping people. It's not really about career building experience but just building confidence. Thanks x
