We have been alerted to a scam in another part of the country involving parking meters.

The scam happens when you are approached by someone who pleads with you to help them with a parking meter that won’t accept their foreign card.

They ask you to use your card to make their car park payment, and they will give you the cash.
Once you have entered your card and PIN number, your card will not come out of the machine. They have used a device to capture it. They ring who they say is the meter company who tells you they will send an engineer to fix the machine and will contact you later to return your card.

Once you have left, they retrieve your card and use it.


Protect Your Money

If you enter your card into any form of payment machine and are unable to retrieve it for any reason, you should immediately contact your bank to stop the card.

Whenever you enter your PIN number, ensure that nobody can see the number – use your other hand to block the view of any onlookers.

If you are approached by someone in the manner described above, please decline their request and report the suspicious behaviour to police.

Apple Day is an annual festival in the United Kingdom organized by the UK charity and lobby group Common Ground. It was first held on October 21, 1990 and has been celebrated every year since then.

Common Ground focuses on promoting local distinctiveness. This phrase was coined by Common Ground in 1982 and basically refers to the concept of spirit of place. Apple Day was established as a holiday to celebrate local produce with the apple symbolizing local foods.

I've noticed that quite a few food items have wrappers that say they are resealable, but most of them aren't.
Last week I needed a new loaf of bread. I usually get Warburtons but one called Allinsons Scandalously Seeded loaf was on offer. On the end of the wrapper it said "resealable". So I bought it. Later on opened it, ate a few slices, went to close and reseal it to find it is just a normal plastic bread wrapper.
The same goes for McVities Ginger Pudding Cake. Says resealable on the wrapper but its just a normal wrapper. Getting the cake back in the wrapper after taking a slice is almost impossible unless you rip it a bit.
Even Cadburys Dairy Milk is getting in on the act, claiming their wrapper is resealable.
Some foods get it right like Pilgrims Choice cheese that has the plasic clip-it air tight reseal.

Most mornings I have to put lurcher dog's padded harness and coat (she has several) in the washing machine due to the horrendous rolling she does in foxes' poo - dog also has to be washed as best I can. House and car just reeks of it and it's not a pleasant aroma.

To be honest, not happy about putting in washing machine but needs must and I then do a short low wash with just bleach to hopefully clean the machine. Other than getting rid of dog (very tempted), any suggestions - would it be better to buy the anti-bacterial washing additive instead of the bleach second wash. I'm getting paranoid about it.
