Are people getting used to living in this lockdown situation?

How many are still finding the lockdown stressful and lonely if on ones own and how many are fairly relaxed about it and enjoying a bit if down time away from work or making the most of family time for those living with family.
I asked this because the older lady I know who lives on their own normally with her dog said last week she was quite happy and relaxed and wasn’t feeling concerned about the lockdown at all. She just goes out to walk the dog once a day away from people and I drop the shopping once a week.
How are you coping now we’re in week 3?

Carer finds ‘killer’ note on her car (Edited)

      https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/11339926/carer-note-killer-treating-vulnerable-coronavirus/amp/

It’s disgusting that people think it’s okay to target somebody who is only going about their job to help a vulnerable elderly person in their home to keep well and healthy... Provide their meals and in some cases personal care as well. Tocome back to the car and find this on it. So if you read the article a few other instances happened with other carers.

Bad driving during this lockdown (Edited)

I have noticed on the rare occasion I have been out shopping or to care for my uncle that the driving of the few cars that are on the roads to be rather wreck less... driving far too fast on the roads..& ignoring the flashing speed signs saying slow down.. A couple of drivers behind me obviously was getting fed up of me trying to keep to the speed limit so first chance they took off to the other side of the road and zoomed past.. also I’ve been tailgated numerous time’s.
And today I read on Facebook that a local lady who owns a cat rescue centre that her own beloved cat that she had for many years has been run down and killed at 10 am this morning..Which shouldn’t of happened at the moment especially during lockdown where there are so few cars and a lot of the roads of 20 miles an hour anyway. And I don’t think she lives on a busy road anyway by the look of the photos that she puts up of her road.
Why do people suddenly think because the road is empty that the law doesn’t matter & they can drive at a ridiculously fast speed...whether the road is busy or not busy you still have to drive at the speed of the road... it doesn’t suddenly change if no other cars. Very sad to hear she lost her cat it was only a few weeks ago she lost her husband too.

      Good morning

Could not sleep so listened to the dawn chorus, admired the tulips and noticed the fuchsia buds which are usually Summer/Autumn flowering.
Ordered my groceries on line with Sainsburys and noticed minimum items have been removed on some shopping.
Received notification re: Asda online delivery today which I forgot about as I snapped up a delivery slot and did not get notification "you can still add to your order", so expensive delivery for a handful of items. Could have done with a few more items. Their black grapes are delicious but getting a delivery slot absolutely terrible. Have a nice day.

      No Paper tax returns anymore..

I arrived home today to find a letter saying your tax return is due now So I was looking round for the tax form that I normally get the A4 form...no sign of it at all so I read the letter and I now have to either do it online or download the form and I have no printer..I was quite happy filling in the paper one and sending it to them.

It’s a bit like when they stop giving out the paper tax discs you just pay and you get nothing for your money.. I quite like having a little round disk in my car to say I taxed it These days they seem to be cutting back to save on paper in everything..

Although I know it’s good for the planet I personally miss the fact of things being on paper rather than always online.

Chemists selling single face masks Not hygienic. (Edited)

I went to buy face masks today & and the chemists are selling them in single units which I don’t actually think it’s very hygienic...because you ask for five and then the chemist just takes them out of the box using his gloved hand but the glove has touched all over the place all over the counter... all over products other people touched..the till etc and after manhandling into a bag he then gives them to you. I then did not feel like going home or where ever and putting the mask over my nose and face.

When Keyworkers are pulled over by Police

My nephew is a keyworker. He works for an electricity supply company. If he is ever stopped by the police he has a letter from his employer to prove he is a keyworker and he is not breaking the lockdown rules by being in his car or van.
Being typically him he is using it to drive to friends and to here. Today he came here with a friend who is his barber to borrow my spare room to get his hair cut. Then later another friend turned up.
They were joking about police stopping people and handing out fines, and people driving when they shouldn't be. I said, "yes, like you ". His friend said that he keeps a bag of shopping in the car so he can tell any Police officer that he has just been shopping.
I have given up telling him he shouldn't be visiting me.
As for my sister and her daughter, I have declared them members of my household even though they don't live here. She's a really good cook and as they live in a flat they do not have their own household.

Message from Amy Clements Commander For Chiltern and South Buckinghamshire Police Area

I understand that this is a difficult and worrying time for a lot people as we all make significant adjustments to our daily lives to follow the movement restrictions set out by the Government. These measures have been put in place to stop the spread of the Coronavirus, to protect the NHS and to save lives.

You will be aware that the police were recently given new powers to help reinforce these measures. Our approach to these is to engage with our public, explain the measures and why they’re in force and encourage everyone to keep to the new measures. We have been given enforcement powers, but will only use these as a last resort.

My officers will routinely be stopping members of the public and vehicles to ensure that the Government’s advice is being followed so please don’t be alarmed if you are stopped but we do ask that you work with us and follow any instructions that officers may give you.

I know that in the uncertainty of the current climate you may feel anxious, unsettled and fearful. I want to reassure you that in Chiltern & South Bucks we are still policing as normal and we are responding to emergency calls and investigating crime as we do at any other time. We continue to police our community priorities of burglary prevention, drugs and anti-social behaviour.

In addition to our normal policing duties, we are also helping to keep the country safe from Coronavirus by ensuring people keep to the movement restrictions. We cannot do that without you, and I thank everyone who is adhering to the guidance, staying home unless absolutely necessary, and saving lives by doing so.

Lastly, I want to say a huge thank you for all the messages of support and generous donations that have been made to my team: just this week we have had donations of protective masks, gloves and hand sanitiser as well as many messages of support. All of this makes a difference – thank you.

By continuing to stay home, you can protect the NHS and save lives. Thank you again for your co-operation during these challenging times.

Sent on behalf of Superintendent Amy Clements, Commander for Chiltern and South Buckinghamshire LPA (Local Policing Area)

      A Sense of Proportion

In order to get a sense of proportion, we need more information. Currently, all deaths where the deceased had COVID-19 Coronovirus are recorded as deaths due to the virus. As Terry4 said a few days ago, we need to know how many deaths occurred due to the virus and how many with the virus. We had a little more clarity at yesterday’s briefing when it was said that, of the 2,921 deaths in the UK, 44 people had no underlying health issues. Those figures could be overstated. If the deaths are investigated, as they should be, we may discover some of those had heath issues that had not been identified.

The daily death figures are only those in hospitals. The Office for National Statistics issued figures on Wednesday that included deaths in nursing homes and at home, an additional 40 for the period to Wednesday 25th March. I have asked the ONS to make additional information available so that comparisons can be made with deaths in previous years.
      https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19roundup/2020-03-26

I realise that, without the virus, some of those with underlying health issues may have lived for years longer and others may have died from other causes.

Before I am criticised for suggesting anyone questions the current group think, please take the time to consider this. It has been claimed that the Conservative government’s austerity policy has cost tens of thousands of lives; some people claim it is more than a hundred thousand. If the World’s economy is shut down for an extended period, the hardship caused by closed businesses, unemployment, dividends not paid, inflation, further erosion of savings, homelessness, the burden of personal, business and government debt and the higher taxes and additional cuts to public services needed to repay it could make the previous austerity seem generous.

We cannot read anything into the number of tests or positive results reported because testing is very limited and focused on patients showing symptoms with some testing of NHS staff. We therefore have no real idea of how many people have or have had the virus.

There have been various estimates of the death rate from COVID-19 ranging between 0.5% and 1.0%. Some suggest the rate may be much lower. Yesterday, 44 deaths out of 2,921 (1 in 66) in the UK were stated to have had no underlying health issues. I have used yesterday’s figures instead of today’s because I have not seen any updated figures for the number of deaths with no underlying health issues.

Based on the 1.0% overall death rate, this equates to a death rate of 0.015% (15 per 100,000) for those with no underlying health issues. Based on the lower 0.5% overall death rate, the death rate for those with no underlying health issues is 0.0075 (15 per 200,000).

      According to the ONS:
      • In 2018, there were 541,589 deaths registered in England and Wales
      • There were 7,551 deaths registered in the UK in 2018 that related to alcohol-specific causes (11.9 deaths per 100,000 people).

Table 1: Leading cause of death by age group and sex in England and Wales, 2018
      Males % of male deaths
All ages Ischaemic heart diseases 13.2
1 to 4 Congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal abnormalities 12.6
5 to 19 Suicide and injury/poisoning of undetermined intent 16.6
20 to 34 Suicide and injury/poisoning of undetermined intent 25.9
      35 to 49 Accidental poisoning 12.5
      50 to 64 Ischaemic heart diseases 17.3
      65 to 79 Ischaemic heart diseases 14.8
80+ Dementia and Alzheimer disease 15.1

      Females % of female deaths
All ages Dementia and Alzheimer disease 16.7
1 to 4 Congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal abnormalities 15.9
5 to 19 Suicide and injury/poisoning of undetermined intent 12.3
20 to 34 Suicide and injury/poisoning of undetermined intent 15.6
35 to 49 Malignant neoplasm of breast 12.6
50 to 64 Malignant neoplasm of breast 10.1
65 to 79 Malignant neoplasm of trachea, bronchus and lung 10.1
80+ Dementia and Alzheimer disease 23.6

It makes sense for anyone in the ‘at risk’ category to keep away from other people and take all reasonable precautions to avoid catching the virus, but can shutting down the World’s economy be justified and is it worth the cost?

How lockdown can affect your state of mind

Please just be carefull because people are going crazy from being in lockdown. Actually I've just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster while drinking coffee and all of us agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she puts a different spin on everything and certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant right now. Fed up with staying in due to Coronavirus (Edited)

Just ponder on this for a minute...

2020 - We just have to stay in for a couple of months.
WW II - You have to leave your loved ones and might never see them again.

2020 - But my kids need some fresh air so we're all going to the park.
WW II - Your kids have to be evacuated and live with random good samaritans for their safety.

2020 - I can only Facetime my family and friends I can't see them.
WW II - I have written letters, I'm hoping they're received and I get a response this year.

2020 - I am trying to order my food shop online, it's taking ages to get to me I need, alcohol, and all the other foods I'm craving.
WW II - Are you coming to queue-up in the line for our rations-potato soup every day of the week?

2020 - The government hasn't said we can't go out, they just said we can but only once to exercise so I'm going to go meet my friends and do what I want.
WW II - I'm not going out just in case a bomb drops so I will stay in listening to some music quietly because the air raid siren might go off.

2020 - Netflix needs to sort the streaming out I can't even watch a series without it crashing.
WW II - We are sitting in the dark around a candle playing cards keeping as much light in as possible so the warplanes don't see us from above.

2020 - Every man for themselves, so I'm going to stock-pile as much as I can because we are more important than anyone else, never mind the elderly that gave us this freedom.

WW II - I'm so grateful for this community, everyone is helping each other out when and where we can, we must stay strong.

This is the perspective that we should have, we don't know how LUCKY we have it and people still aren't listening.

Stay in, it really is that simple!

      Russia and Coronavirus

Earlier this evening on another thread relating to Covid-19. attempted to imply that Russia would be a good place to be as there were no reported cases of Coronavirus.

Unfortunately you could not have been more wrong! Russia has sixteen international borders including one with China extending for 4,209 Kms. To seriously believe that Coronavirus has not crossed any of the 22,293 Kms of land border and 1,236 Kms of sea border is akin to believing that everybody should ignore the rules laid down by the Government as social distancing will not save as many lives as herd immunity. I can't seriously take anything as fact from somebody who can look at a country with a population in excess of 146.7 million and states that there are no cases of Coronavirus.

At the weekend I spent an hour and a half talking (on a video call) to a Russian friend of mine who lives on the outskirts of Moscow. She and her family are in isolation!

Her mother, has been redeployed from her usual role as an ENT consultant and is helping with the Covid-19 cases which are rapidly filling the hospitals.

Today, the BBC are reporting: The Russian parliament has approved an “anti-virus” package of laws including up to seven years in prison for serious violations of quarantine rules. The official tally remains relatively low at 2,337 and 17 deaths. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-52109892

So quite where you got your information from, I have no idea.

Furthermore, the statement you aimed at me: "Governments never listen to 'reasoned arguments', thought you might realise that." Was actually a throw away line and as was explained by another person is an opinion of yours, not of mine and if you believe that Governments "never" listen to reasoned arguments, then you have serious issues which need to be addressed elsewhere, not on this forum.

Finally, I was shocked at the way you responded to . I don't give a damn what political motivation you have, but you are an ignorant waste of space to insult her when she has just lost somebody she cared for, especially as she is concerned about the safety of everyone in this difficult time, and that includes you!

Care home residents being starved by Tesco

This was on BBC News today. A care home in Buxton with 25 residents usually would have a regular weekly delivery from Tesco. They spend around £1500 per week or £85k per year.
Last week they couldn't get a delivery slot. So they phoned Tesco to ask if they could be made a priority. Tesco said, they would be treated as a single household and were limited to 3 of any item.
The care home manager said to BBC News presenter Victoria Derbyshire, "How do I feed 25 people with 3 tins of baked beans and 3 bananas?"

Can you catch the Coronavirus twice?

Thank you for closing the post Clive.
I started the post and would have liked to end it.

I think the post has shown how one person can endanger the lives of many. You have to feel sorry for anyone who feels their 'civil liberty' and also does not believe in practising 'social distancing', are far more important than the lives of the rest of us.

      Good morning/afternoon inmates

Grey skies no sun here.On worldometers virus no new cases at the moment in UK. Same yesterday but changed in the afternoon.
We were warned decades ago about a "Super Bug" and had quite a few outbreaks (Flu/Ebola aso)Could we not have prepared better? If authorities would have put an emergency package together and invited people to buy one would you have done so?This reminds me of the gas mask. Would this have been suitable?
