The government has committed to make it mandatory for banks to reimburse victims of bank transfer scams.
This is a huge win for our campaign. Currently, only banks signed up to a voluntary code must give victims their money back – but even then, the majority are doing a shoddy job.
This legislative change will force the banks to do more to protect their customers from fraud, or rightfully return the victim’s money when they fail to do so.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59351160 I sometimes think that those of us who do ordinary jobs with ordinary earnings and pay all our taxes must be complete mugs. But I prefer to be a mug rather than mix with the likes of Cameron et al.

My mate said, "I like your car."
I said, "It's not very practical now we've got a baby."
He said, "How about I buy it off you."
I said, "Yeah go on then. Three grand?"
He said, "You've got yourself a deal."
I said, "Nice one... you're going to make a brilliant dad!" -
Persimmon (Edited)
Does anyone eat them? I love them but I find even when they aren't quite ripe that they can have some black areas in the flesh. Just wondering if it's safe to eat?

Just noticed 2 charging points at our local Tesco. One says charging point, the other (much bigger) says charging pod. Is there a difference? If so, what is it?

My recycling bin full to the top was not collected this week. After phoning was informed it would be emptied with household waste.
Queried if it would go to landfill site but they assured me it would be recycled.
I usually clean all the items and would be very annoyed if it is just chucked into landfill.
What do you think? -
My first two jabs were AstraZenica, first one on 1st April - I had my booster (3rd jab) on 17 November - it was a Pfizer.
So far after 24 hours there are no effects whatsoever - slight soreness where the jab went in but can barely feel it.
Do not even feel I have had a booster - perfectly normal. -

Starting 19 January, 2022, we will unfortunately no longer accept Visa credit cards issued in the UK, due to the high fees Visa charges for processing credit card transactions. You can still use debit cards (including Visa debit cards) and non-Visa credit cards like Mastercard, Amex, and Eurocard to make purchases. Please update your default payment method now, or add one of these new, eligible payment methods if you do not have one.

Vets made this tiny bird with deformed feet its own set of mini snow shoes.
This little mockingbird doesn't have a name. It was recently rescued by the California Wildlife Center. The shoes helped to realign its feet, getting them back to the normal foot shape for a bird. After just one week, the bird’s feet were fixed and he was able to walk around on his own.

Constant 'Predict the score' posts
Someone - not one person but perhaps only a few - constantly puts up these posts in the Anything loop.
Why not set up a separate loop for these, to declutter Anything a bit. After all, they're all similar, so would make more sense grouped together. This discussion is now closed.

People’s Climate Deal (Edited)
I’m writing this from climate talks in Glasgow -- and I have tough news.
Right now, we’re on track for climate catastrophe, with well over two degrees Celsius of warming, and the deal being drafted here is still a long way from being the deal we need for climate safety.
There’s just a couple of days of negotiations left, and we need something transformative if we’re going to turn this around. And we might just have it.
Partly inspired by the climate manifesto 1.8 million of us signed, an Avaaz member and legal expert drafted THE climate deal the world needs. It covers everything we care about -- from an urgent end to fossil fuels, to massively scaled up support for vulnerable countries on the frontline. If we can get signatures from every single country on Earth, the Avaaz team can deliver it directly to negotiators in Glasgow, demanding they back the People’s Climate Deal and fight for it in the talks!
Sign the People’s Climate Deal on behalf of your country!
These climate talks are thick with jargon and you need real expertise to make sense of the text. But luckily, Avaaz’s millions of members have some pretty awesome skills -- and one happens to be a top international climate law expert.
He wrote to us out of the blue with the People’s Climate Deal and our team here love it -- and we think it could make a real difference in the last days of this summit, as countries seek to hammer out the details of an agreement -- if it’s signed by people everywhere.
Every name counts. If we’re quick, we could get signatures from every country before negotiations end -- click below to sign on behalf of your country, and we’ll deliver it to delegations and share it with the media to fight for our future.
Sign the People’s Climate Deal on behalf of your country!
Avaaz’s team on the ground has been working round the clock for weeks, delivering our voices and working with inspiring youth and indigenous leaders to demand the urgent action we need to avoid climate catastrophe. This could be our last push before the Glasgow talks end -- let’s give it everything we’ve got.

Staying ex-directory and registered with the Telephone Preference Service mostly keeps away scam callers, except those using foreign 'phone banks beyond the ICO's reach, but I had a tiresome new variety of caller today.
She sounded English, rang my home landline number and used my correct title and surname, which is unheard of. (Spam callers mostly misaddress me by a first name that I don't use, which is an invaluable tell-tale.) And the call came from an unhidden London exchange number, also not at all usual.
The reverse lookup records a lot of previous reports about unsolicited calls from that number, as follows:
"💡 The overall rating for telephone number 020 3154 6770 is Negative. There have been 3,372 phone lookups and 107 comments relating to this number. On this page: 12 Users rated it as Dangerous, 6 Users rated it as Harassing and 2 Users rated it as Unknown.
The summary of detected keywords found in the reports is as follow: scam (12 times), lottery (9 times), bank (5 times), spam (1 time), credit card (1 time)"
Fortunately, I've never played a lottery in my life, so being told that the caller was "from the Lottery Department" didn't sound right. And she broke off the call when I asked where she'd got my name and number from, since I've never played any lottery.
So don't be fooled into believing that you've won the lottery if a civilised-sounding English stranger rings your home number and addresses you by your correct name. It's just yet another scam, although I didn't wait long enough to find out exactly what they wanted. -
How do you feel about this ... non racist comment, personal opinions only.
1,000 illegal immigrants arrived today, well 90% economic migrants let’s face it.
We have nigh on 25,000 illegals expected this year. Not only is it costing a fortune, especially in these Covid days, and not only do we not have enough housing ourselves, even some RNLI volunteers are starting to get annoyed. Some of these young men are told by the smugglers just call 999 and you will be looked after. Already recent two drownings. How many are sent back??? None at this stage as they will throw away their papers and passports. The French say we make it easy with our handouts. Well we e handed out enough to them that’s for sure and they seem to find our fishing boats ok!! This has been discussed before. Hotels and a weekly £39.63ish.This discussion is now closed.

Bad Luck (Edited)
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month has now sadly passed.
In WW1, the orders were "Business as usual" until 11.00 a.m on the 11/11/1918.
These poor guys were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Henry Nicholas John Gunther (June 6, 1895 – November 11, 1918) was an American soldier and likely the last soldier of any of the belligerents to be killed during World War I. He was killed at 10:59 a.m., one minute before the Armistice was to take effect at 11:00 a.m.
Gunther had recently been demoted, and was seeking to regain his rank just before the war ended.
George Edwin Ellison (10 August 1878 – 11 November 1918) of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers was the last British soldier to be killed in action during the First World War. He died at 09:30 a.m (90 minutes before the Armistice came into effect), shot by a sniper while on a patrol in woodland on the outskirts of Mons, Belgium. -
