Wimbledon engaging in pure virtue signalling
The All England Tennis Club has banned all Russian and Belarussian players from the Wimbledon Championships in an act of blatant virtue signalling.
It's almost as bad as cancel culture banning individuals from events simply because of their nationality. It's actually racist. This discussion is now closed.

A Priest was being honored at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish.
A leading local politician and member of the congregation was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner.
However he was delayed, so the Priest decided to say his own few words while they waited:
“I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place.
The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it.
He had stolen money from his parents; embezzled from his employer;
had an affair with his boss’ wife; had sex with his boss’ 17 year old daughter on numerous occasions, taken illegal drugs;
had several homosexual affairs; was arrested several times for public nudity and gave VD to his sister-in-law.
I was appalled that one person could do so many awful things…
But as the days went on I learned that my people were not all like that and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people.”
Just as the Priest finished his talk the politician arrived full of apologies at being late.
He immediately began to make the presentation and gave his talk:
“I’ll never forget the first day our parish Priest arrived” said the politician. “In fact I had the honour of being the first person to go to him for confession.”

During a Physics course at University, many years ago, the professor thought to give his students the following assignment to answer: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.
One student, however, wrote the following.
“First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This gives two possibilities: if Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that "it will be a cold day in Hell before I go out with you", and take into account the fact that I went out with her last night, then number 2 must be true. Thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic, and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls, and is therefore extinct... leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being. Which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."”

Something concerning about video of drug driver knocking kid off his bike (Edited)
This was shown on BBC Breakfast this morning. A father was riding behind his young son teaching him to ride a bike properly. He was filming on a GoPro. When suddenly a car hits the boy and leaves him seriously injured.
The good news is the boy has survived against all the odds, as the car would've been going at 60mph. The driver also failed a drug test.
What was concerning was the father was telling his son to cycle off the pavement and onto the road, on the wrong side of the road. There was a cycle lane but it is for cyclists travelling the same direction as the traffic.
I'm no way making any excuses for the drug driver by this observation. -

Among people I know I was made aware how many had to go private paying large sums of money due to --no-- NHS dentists being available.
Please sign.
Shocking.Thousands of us are waiting more than 3 years for a NHS dental appointment. With a number of treatments costing hundreds of pounds, some are turning to dangerous do-it-yourself methods, like at-home filling kits or even pulling out their own teeth.
Waiting years and forking out astronomical costs is a story many of us are familiar with. But it shouldn’t be this way. That’s why Healthwatch England, the health watchdog, is calling on the government to prioritise reforming our broken dental care system to avoid further harm to people’s health.
Now, imagine every one of us reading this, knowing how expensive and difficult it is to get dental care, signed a huge petition to the government, calling for urgent changes. Hundreds of thousands of us could show that we, the public, agree it’s time to make sure that no matter who we are, where we live or how much we earn we can all access quality and affordable dental care.
Will you join me and sign the petition today?

Having just received my Interest Certificate from the bank telling me that for the last tax year they had paid me the princely sum of £1.68 in interest.
Out of interest I calculated what my average monthly bank balances were found that if inflation had been only 3% I "lost" £371 of value. Just shows that it doesn't pay to keep assets in cash.
Keep it a secret but of the £1.68 but I owe the Tax Man 16.8p in unpaid tax which he can have if he calls round and collects it.This discussion is now closed.

Titanic Remembrance Day is observed every year on April 15. Did you know that the R.M.S. Titanic ship had four hull compartments that could be flooded without causing a critical loss of buoyancy, and was, thus, considered unsinkable? The day is set aside to remember the victims and survivors of the unfortunate sinking of the ship and reflect on how the world jointly responded to a heartbreaking disaster.
110th Anniversary today. -

Promising news from the Black Sea
I'd just come across this delightful new twist to the Snake Island story when the BBC reported that Ukraine has apparently done potentially fatal damage to that same Russian warship - the Moskva, which is the flagship of Putin's Black Sea fleet - with a couple of missiles.
"Up yours, Russian warship" (or however you like to translate the defiant Ukrainian's original comment) has now taken on a new meaning.

Hopefully my last posting about Covid-19
unless I get triggered. Going to try to be reasonable so this doesn't become another flame war. So here goes.
I think everybody up to retirement age and even some older folk, who are generally healthy with no life affecting medical conditons, should be living life as they were before the first signs of "this new Corona virus" was mentioned. No face masks, no enforced distancing or restriction on people in a room. If they catch Covid, 99% will get over it in a few weeks at most.
Elderly people who are frail, and those in care homes and hospitals should still take precautions by wearing a face mask and keeping to the social distance. Also those visiting them should wear a face masks
We shouldn't even be considering going back to mandatory mask wearing in shops and public buildings for everyone. If we did that, for what is now a virus milder than Flu, it would be never ending.
Even the wearing of masks that I agree with is just to make the older people feel safe as all the evidence is that they make no difference to whether you will catch Covid. This discussion is now closed.
