The 150+ voices of Wimbledon Choral with the City of London Sinfonia will be performing Haydn's Nelson mass on Sat April 5 at 7.30pm. It was written in 1798 in Austria when they were threatened by the all conquering Napoleon. News arrived the day after its first performance that Lord Nelson had a stunning victory at the Battle of the Nile which destroyed Napoleon's fleet and left his army stranded in Egypt. In jubilation the piece became known as the Nelson Mass, arguably Haydn's greatest single work. Save the date - 5 April.
