Have you had a trim recently? (Edited)
Trimming your SSD (solid state disk)
Remember the old days when you enjoyed watching your hard disk defrag? If you don't, see the attached video. If you have an SSD (solid state disk), then you should be aware that you should not defrag it. It should, however, be trimmed. TRIM is automatically enabled in Windows 10 if it detects that you are using an SSD. To see this in operation, do the following:
Open the Windows 10 Start Menu and type "optimize" into the search box. Select "Defragment and Optimize Drives" app from the search results. The Optimize Drives window shows connected drives that can be optimized. Select the SSD from the list and then press the "Optimize" button to manually start trim.

Information, tips and myths - No.36 - Buying a new PC? If so, beware of S Mode
If you are thinking of buying a new PC, be sure to check if it has S Mode. An S Mode PC can only download apps/programs from the Windows Store. Also, you cannot change the default browser from Edge.
Information, tips and myths - No.35 - Using rechargeable batteries
Note that you must read the instructions for a device before using rechargeable batteries, because rechargeable batteries do not have the same voltage as ordinary batteries. An ordinary battery is 1.5 volts, whereas rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts. So, if you have a device that needs four ordinary batteries, that will give six volts, whereas if you use rechargeable batteries, that will total only 4.8 volts.
Windows 10 - end of support may not be 14th October 2025 in your case
The end of support date of 14 October 2025 applies to whatever the last version of Win 10 is. Some versions cannot be updated. Windows 10 Version 21H2 reached end of support on June 11, 2024.
To find out your version of Win 10, type WINVER in to the search box and press enter. Here is a list of versions that are no longer supported:
As of June 2024, several versions of Windows 10 are no longer supported by Microsoft. Windows 10 follows a lifecycle policy where each version receives feature updates and support for a certain period. The versions that are no longer supported are:
Windows 10 Version 1507 (original release): End of support on May 9, 2017
Windows 10 Version 1511: End of support on October 10, 2017
Windows 10 Version 1607: End of support on April 10, 2018 (Enterprise and Education editions extended to October 9, 2018)
Windows 10 Version 1703: End of support on October 9, 2018 (Enterprise and Education editions extended to October 8, 2019)
Windows 10 Version 1803: End of support on November 12, 2019 (Enterprise and Education editions extended to May 11, 2021)
Windows 10 Version 1809: End of support on May 12, 2020 (Enterprise and Education editions extended to May 11, 2021)
Windows 10 Version 1903: End of support on December 8, 2020
Windows 10 Version 1909: End of support on May 11, 2021 (Enterprise and Education editions extended to May 10, 2022)
Windows 10 Version 2004: End of support on December 14, 2021
Windows 10 Version 20H2: End of support on May 10, 2022 (Enterprise and Education editions extended to May 9, 2023)
Windows 10 Version 21H1: End of support on December 13, 2022
Windows 10 Version 21H2: End of support on June 11, 2024
These versions are no longer receiving security updates, bug fixes, or new features from Microsoft. It is recommended to upgrade to a supported version to ensure your system remains secure and up-to-date. If you cannot update your version, there is nothing you can do about it other than make sure all your important files are copied to a backup.

Information, tips and myths - No.33 - Windows Administrator account
Myth: Your Windows PC may show that you are the Administrator, but you are a just a User with administrative privileges. This is why you have to click to allow some operations to continue, or chose 'Run as administrator'. If you had Vista, you will remember the annoying 'You do not have permission to do this'. You can become a true Administrator to avoid the prompts, but it is a bit technical; google 'hidden Administrator account', if you wish to know more.

Information, tips and myths - No.32 - Backing up
Depending on your requirements and knowledge, there are many ways to backup. There are two types of backup, the simplest is a manual backup of files of your choosing, and the other is a complete backup of your computer, this is called a 'system image' Google for details. If you have Windows 10/11, you will have OneDrive on your computer, this backs up files of your choosing automatically. OneDrive enables you to access your files from any computer, even if your computer has died. Google for details.

Post for moderators (Edited)
Depending on your use of Scooploop, you may have noticed that moderators are dropping like flies. Two consequences of this are, depending on a moderator's settings, advertisers can post at will, and members are unable to make new posts.
Looking around at various posts and comments, I can see that even some long term members are unaware of various aspects of how Scooploop works, whereas some new members are remarkably knowledgeable!. Anyone can become a moderator, but that does not mean that they understand the settings to know how to moderate.
If you are a moderator, I would be interested to know if, without investigating, you understand the 'Bubble posts' setting. Please vote on the link below.

For various reasons, advertisers are currently having a field day in loops. Rather than having to deal with a member after they have advertised, I have created a loop where you can check on guilty members before you admit them. Note that there is nothing in the settings to prevent someone from posting comments.

Information, tips and myths - No.28 - Your documents are not in your documents folder!
If you use OneDrive, then your documents are not in your documents folder, they are in OneDrive's documents folder. You can go directly to your real documents folder at C:\Users\enter your user name here\documents. If your OneDrive is full or getting full, then you can use this folder. The same may apply to your photos/videos/music folders.
I can see that some members are having trouble posting links. When you post a link to a website, you should not post it as a link obtained using a search engine and which includes the search engine's name in the result. If you do this, the image which you can usually click will take you to the search engine's website instead, as in this link to X: google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&...
This is because Scooploop reads the website at the beginning of the link to create the clickable image. Clicking the link instead of the image will take you to the intended location, but to avoid confusion, always post a link directly to the website.

Information, tips and myths - No.27 - Phoning 999 when you have no signal (Edited)
If you have no signal, you may still be able to dial 999. This is because your phone is able to use any other available network. Even if another network does not have a stable signal, you may still be able to send a text. To be able to send a text, you need to have registered your phone beforehand. You do this by texting the word ‘register’ to 999, you’ll receive a reply which you need to read and reply to with the word 'yes', you will now be able to text to 999.

Warning! Using your photo as your avatar (Edited)
Many members use a photo as their avatar. If your avatar is your photo, note that this is one of the personal pieces of information that you should not put on a public website such as Scooploop. Your photo can be used to identify you and be used maliciously or for fraud.
Other things that should never be posted are:
1. Your real name*
2. Address
3. Phone number
4. Email address
5. Date of birth

Information, tips and myths - No.25 - Drying a wet phone with rice
Apple has warned customers that they should not try to dry a wet phone by putting it in rice. The starch in rice can damage a phone. Rice is not an efficient desiccant. Tests have shown that porridge oats, couscous and cat litter all absorb more water from wet phones than rice.
