Lockdown Diary: Cooking - Käsespätzle
Käsespätzle is a tradiional southern German dish made of a special kind of noodles called "Spätzle" (hand made egg noodles, made by "dropping" very fluid dough into boiling water), briefly baked with (Emmentaler) cheese.
Lockdown Diary: Cooking - Toast Hawaii
A classic German recipe (yes, really) from the 50ies. Toast Hawaii, here a vegetarian version:
* Slice of toast, a bit of butter, pineapple, vegetarian "ham", cheese.
traditionally you use "American Cheese" slices, but I couldn't find any in the shop.
Aloha.
Lockdown Diary Day XYZ+N: More lockdown cooking - Lentil Soup with Vegetarian Sausages (Edited)
This is based on a very traditional German recipe, though normally rather cooked in the winter.
1) soak lentils for a few hours, then boil until soft (appr 1 hour)
2) chop a red pepper, mushrooms, onion and garlic briefly in some olive or sunflower oil
3) add vegetables to the lentils, add pepper, salt, some chilli pepper, cumin powder and the (vegetarian) sausages to the lentils, add some extra water and boil for another 20 minutes.
4) serve with fresh bread.
Lockdown Diary Day XYZ: Getting more creative in cooking
Japanese-style omelette, cauliflower and peppers topped with parmigiano & breadcrumbs, salad with re-hydrated figs.

Lockdown Diary Day 14: A Letter from the Prime Minister (Edited)
So today I got a letter from the prime minister himself, well, it is signed by him.
Ironically, while it says "a vital update" on the envelope, I could not find any new information inside. Not that I expected much, but I am actually a bit surprised they went through the effort (and cost) of sending the letters. #coronavirus #lockdown #covid19
Petition to save Brixton's "Nour Cash & Cary"
The owner of Nour Cash & Carry in Brixton Market has been served with a section 25 notice to leave the premises on 22 July 2020.
https://www.change.org/p/lambeth-council-save-nour-cash-carry-brixton
When first coming to the UK, Nour's owner found work in the Brixton and quickly opened the first shop which was around for 10 years before the opening of Nour. Having been welcomed into the community with open arms, it was an easy decision to remain in Brixton following the closure of that shop, and it was a unanimous family decision that Brixton would always be home, even when others deemed it unfashionable and unsafe.
Brockwell Park will be closed today due to #covid-19 . I assume they will do the same next weekend.

Lockdown Diary Day 7: No Bread, but there is still cake.. (Edited)
Ok, I knew i wouldn't be able to write daily and I might not have counted the days correctly. On the upside: my cough is almost gone and my lunges stopped hurting, too.
I am not a medical expert but I guess it is a good sign? Looking forward to getting that self-test in my local off-licence soon, as it was promised last week..
Having not left the house for 10 days, I wonder how the shopping situation has developed. I am all good on the toilet paper front, but might have to venture out next weekend for some other basics. Last time I've been to the local shop there was no bread, I guess it is still the same? I still have some cake at home so feeling a bit Marie Antoinette-ish. #covid19 #coronavirus
Lockdown Diary Day 3: Pizza Isolamento (Edited)
OK, I am running out of ideas of what to photograph in the park, therefore today a recipe.
Dough: 250g flour, 125ml water, 1 spoon olice oil, yeast, some salt and sugar
Topping: tomatos, tomato paste, basil, mozarella, gorgonzola
Mix lukewarm water with the yeast, salt and sugar, let sit for about 10 minutes. Mix the flour, oil with the yeast and knead the dough until it stops sticking to the board. Let the dough rest for about 45 minutes.
Roll out the dough, add the toppings at will (done with dried basil, this is not the time for luxury)
Bake the pizza for about 15-20 minutes, depending on your oven. Enjoy. #covid19 #lockdown #coronavirus
Lockdown Diary Day 2: Message in the Park
Not a very eventful day, jogging again, but this time in the morning. I should probably go earlier in the future, because the park is already packed with people at 8am, especially with dog walkers (the natural enemy of the jogger).
However, I found reminders of social distancing everywhere. Happy to see they are in metric ;) #coronavirus #covid19 #lockdown
Lockdown Diary Day 1: My first SMS from the Government (Edited)
Didn't feel that different from the last ten days or so I stayed at home.
On the upside, it was the first time the government send me a text message. I did not reply though. Went for a run in the park in late afternoon (yes, this is permitted), there were at least a hundred people doing all kind of things.. #coronavirus #lockdown #covid19
The Pigeon Hole Cafe in Camberwell is closing
Sad, here their statement:
"That’s a wrap! We haven’t reopened after the gov announcement on Friday evening. It’s been a long and stressful week trying to interpret the gov advice and make sure we’re doing what’s best for our customers and wider society.
As most of you know, we were planning to pack up this year and head for the beautiful west coast of Scotland. Even with Boris’ 12 week turn around, it seems this will be the end of The Pigeon Hole as we know it. "

R.I.P Kathrine Johnson (Edited)
Kathrine Johnson (1918-2020), probably not so widely known, but an absolute legend in her field. Expert in orbital mechanics who calculated flight trajectories to move humanity into the space age.

Old Croydon Canal in Betts Park
Some pictures from what remains of Croydon Canal in Betts Park south-east of Crystal Palace Park.
Some pictures I took at #Camberwell Old Cemetery last weekend.
Finally made it to Crystal Palace Museum. It's quite small and only open a few hours a week (Sundays), but if you are visiting Crystal Palace Park on a Sunday it is worth a visit.Unfortunately they do not allow taking pictures or filming (why not is beyond me, but well.. ).
Run by volunteers, they are selling a series of booklets about different aspects of Crystal Palace and the World Fair. Nice way to support the project.

Wanted to make pictures of those for a long time. Most of the places in the arches below the station are now closed down (as the area is refurbished). Note: This is the Railway Station, not the Tube Station.

Brixton Urban Art Fair will not take place in 2020
Urban Art Fair, which is held in #Brixton every summer and has non-profit status, was told by #Lambeth council it needed to shell out £8,000 to hold the event this year, up from £277 last year.
