Amazon Fire Tablet (Edited)
All the Scooploop comments are now reading downwards instead of across, I don't know how to get it back to normal.
No advertising please. For the non-techie among us who may need a helping hand at times.

Windows 10 - Windows built-in repair and cleanup tools - Part 3 (Edited)
'System File Checker (SFC)' checks Windows files, including the registry. It is not available on any menu, but can be accessed as below. When the check is finished, if all is well, you will see the result as in the screenshot. If it finds errors, it can repair them, and will show that in the report. In can also find errors but not be able to repair them. As long as your PC is doing everything you need, you can ignore the errors that cannot be fixed.
To run System File Checker, do the following:
1. In the search box on the taskbar next to the Start button, type CMD.
2. At the top of the list on the left, will be Command Prompt.
3. Right-click Command Prompt, then click 'Run as administrator'.
4. Now click Yes in the User Account Control window.
5. A cursor will be flashing in the position that text you type will be entered.
6. Now type the following, note that there is a space after sfc: sfc /scannow
7. When the scan has finished, read the report at the bottom, then close the window.

Do ad blockers work? Do they work on all forums, FB etc? Can you still use Google to look up items? Do you lose recommendation or comments?
Is there anyway of saving them from the house phone if you get a new one ?
i understand that on a mobile the contacts can be saved to the SIM and therefore be transferred to a new phone phone by putting in the old SIm ... although can't see on mine if they are on SIM or phone memory.
Windows 10 - Windows built-in repair and cleanup tools - Part 2 (Edited)
Disk Cleanup cleans up unnecessary files and updates. To access the tool, type Disk Cleanup in the search box on the taskbar. Disk Cleanup will appear at the top of the list. Click it, and a box with C drive showing will appear. Click OK, then, when a dialogue box appears, it will show a list of files that can be deleted, do not click OK, click 'Clean up system files', which is bottom left. The box on which you clicked OK at the beginning will now reappear, click OK. This time round the results will include Windows update files. You can safely tick all the boxes to delete the files. You may not want to include the Recycle bin, in case you may have deleted a file by mistake.Link to other tools: https://www.scooploop.com/thread/windows-10-links-to-built-in-tools-posts
I like spellcheck but found quite often words change to a completely different meaning.
Latest in All Abroad wrote --no singing "in" bath-- but it was changed to inherant which is more like predicted text. I try to check before posting must have missed this one.
Are they two different programs and can predicted text be turned off?

There is no need for the average user to resort to downloading programs to clean up their computer, as everything you need is built in to Windows, though not necessarily visible. Programs such as CCleaner have their uses, but unless you understand what you are doing, they can cause you problems. I once visited a customer who had 'Registry Mechanic' on his desktop! The Registry is a very important part of Windows, and shouldn't be touched. Windows has a built-in program to look after the registry, and it requires no technical knowledge.
The first tool to get to know, is Windows Restore. This will enable you to go back to a time before your problem happened. The program takes you back to how Windows was at a time of your choosing. It does not affect any personal files: documents, photos and music etc. Here is a link explaining System Restore, the most important part, is to make sure that you have System Restore turned on: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/

Welcome to the newcomers, and thanks for the hellos. I specialise in Windows, so don't think I am ignoring you if you post about some other operating system; hopefully one of the other members may have, or know about your device, and be able to help. Today I shall be starting a post to provide links to help with maintaining and looking after your PC. You will be surprised how easy it is to sort out problems without calling in the computer man.
All in one printer (recommendations please) (Edited)
I'm looking for a new all in one printer. I want one which uses individual ink cartridge not just one multi colour.
Any recommendations?
I shall be starting the new format of the group tomorrow Friday 20th November. Please PM me with any ideas you may have about what you would like to have included.
Tablet and laptop not syncing for gmail
They do for everything else and used to for gmail, same messages come through but when I delete on tablet they are not deleted on laptop.
Repeat roll-call - if you haven't done so, please say hello in the top post.
Morning all. Unfortunately, from the response, there are not very many members left, and we are short of techies. I'll assume that the non responding members are no longer with us. I'll continue to recruit.
Hello everyone. I'm John, and I've just become the moderator of the group. I shall be revamping it to make it interesting as well as helpful. As many Scooploop members are no longer around, or have never posted anything, would you just say hello, so I can see how big the membership is. Thanks.
Hi, I have 2 lamps with Philips hue smart light bulbs which I operate through Amazon echo plus using voice control mostly. One bulb has started to not switch off completely, a residual glow remains until turned on again. I have tried deleting and re-enabling the bulb but with no difference. Anyone out there that can help, please?
Losing internet connection (Edited)
I am continually losing the internet on my laptop - each time the trouble shoot says it is an invalid IP configuration. This is the 3rd day of this problem.
Talktalk said it is because of an 'outage' in my area but would that affect the Wi-FI from router to laptop ? the phone is working okay.
I have rebooted the router but hasn't made any difference.
Still cannot get my sounds back to what they were before the Windows 10 long update [that I uninstalled].
Even with speakers on 100% it is still very quiet for notifications and games sounds.
Used to have a little icon on the taskbar that was for stereo mixer but that has now disappeared.
Please can someone tell me - in simple terms, how to do it and when scanned where do they go on my laptop ?
On my laptop I have AVG security and an anti spyware thing that removes cookies. neither of these things ever comes up on my tablet.
Do others have security on their tablets ?
Office 2010 no longer supported
If you use Office 2010, please note that as from 13th October, Microsoft will no longer be providing updates to fix security flaws or bugs. A free alternative to Office is LibreOffice: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/
At least, they haven't disappeared, but are blank, and the icons have lost their names. I updated my avast (not upgraded), as requested in an avast pop up and this is what happened. Docs in my drop box are similarly blank. Is there an easy solution or do I need expert help?
scam microsoft call - can I stop/prevent this?
Have just had a call purporting to be from microsoft: Caller: "I am calling from microsoft. Am I speaking to the owner of the computer?" ME: "there is nothing wrong with my computer - thank you for calling" - I put phone down. Phone rings again - I check number - it's different, so I answer. Caller: "I am blocking your computer as you have been so rude" ME: " I wasn't rude - there is nothing wrong with my computer; thank you, Goodbye" I put the phone down. Phone rings again - same number so I don't answer.
i am ok about this except irritated - but this is so nasty for more vulnerable people - is there anything that can be done?
How do i know if my television is NTSC or PAL ?
Just set up a new DVD player and don't know what to set this on, does it even matter ?
I've Googled all sorts of advice and instructions, gone into device manager but cannot get it to work.
What do these mean, please, on scan
I have just run a scan on desktop
Junk files (1.1gb) - why do I get them and what are they
Invalid shortcuts (2) - ditto
Registry entries (28) - ditto
Privacy Traces (167) - I understand, I think
Just curious. Thanks.
new problem after long windows 10 update
the sound quality has gone down a lot since the update - having to have it set at 100 [max] to hear notification sounds - before it was okay on 65
Why don't I get the same information on my tablet as I do on the laptop.
1. In Groups on the laptop there is a column on the right showing members, it's not there on my tablet.
2. On my profile on the tablet i cannot click on friends to see the list as i can on the laptop, although i can see them by clicking followers.

can I use an old samsung phone charger plug to power a cat fountain?
Not sure if this is the right group for this - but I have purchased a cheap cat fountain (probably too cheap) for our cat who is not drinking enough - only from hosepipe and water butt taps - but it has arrived with a power cord with a usb - am I ok to plug it into an old mobile phone charger plug (it fits) - it needs to be on all the time. Would appreciate advice. thanks.
Computer has gone berserk, bright reds, blues, greens, rolling screen. Windows 7, approx. 7 years old, cannot use, on Fire tablet at moment. Is this repairable or must I get Windows 10 laptop, which I dread. If I bought laptop, could shop transfer stuff to it from old one, please.
Second time of posting this as first didn't show so sorry if duplicated.
All in one desktop has gone berserk. Bright red and blues and rolling screen. Unable to use, currently on Fire tablet. About 7 years old, Windows 7. Is this repairable or will I have to get Windows 10 laptop, which I dread.
Plus, of course, will lose everything, contacts, etc. Have switched on/off several times but still happens. Also have second email address which I can't access on tablet. Is there any point in taking to computer shop, if I bought one from them could they transfer stuff?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my laptop will no longer 'connect' to my printer? It's always worked fine before but, the other day when I went to print something, nothing happened! I know the printer and cable is ok as I can use it with my work laptop but not my personal one anymore. I've tried going into 'Settings' and uninstalling then reinstalling the printer but just can't seem to get any connection. Any ideas anyone? Thanks
How to read emails from Gmail on my tablet

It's fine on Outlook
Loss of internet connection on laptop
3 times this morning I have lost internet connection on my laptop and had to use the trouble shooter to get it back.
Strange thing is when this happens my tablet works perfectly with no problems - what's the difference ?

Fire tablet frozen and won't switch off
It's now been like it for about 2 hours. I took it off the charging point, entered the pin number and it has been frozen ever since. It has a cover but that's not switching it off either. The on-switch moves but having no impression. My slight worry is that it is getting quite warm - what would happen if it stays like this (battery still reading 100%). Any suggestions, please, would be welcome.

I am on an old laptop and do not want to clutter up with info/programs I do not need. Also some programs take a long time to download. I do not load down music only listen to youtube songs. Do I need to down load updates on itune?
When someone sends you a message and your phone is turned off what date/time does it show ?
Had 3 apparently at 2.40 am ish this morning from my bank giving me a security code but I hadn't done any on line banking for about 10 days.
Two silly things. 1. about a week ago my keyboard suddenly stopped automatically using a capital letter after a full stop. 2. why does my groups suddenly say -71 messages? Any ideas anyone?
Got this message when I clicked on shut down. - 'someone else is using this pc. shut down anyway ?'
As I am the only one here how can that be ?
I think my computer is giving up the ghost.
How can I change my husbands email address to mine as he does not use his laptop any more. It is only our first names to be changed.
Will the emails be shown in computer and laptop? Thank you
I've just downloaded it but it won't accept my password. I've changed it twice and it's just not working. Has anyone else had this problem?
For the last week I have been unable to check out my shopping order on the laptop, it works okay on my tablet.
What could be the problem ?
Another problem - on Google this time
When I go to a web page where there are items with down arrows to click for more info this function is suddenly not working.
I have a tablet that I very rarely use - when I get it out the battery is always flat but the thing i don't understand is that it can take 4/5 hours to charge, is this normal ??
I know it's not the charger to blame because the same one charges my mobile phone in about 30 minutes.
Just heard from a friend her email address was hi-jacked and sending out a lot of emails.I only in the past received such emails from friends in my address book.I understand that all you need to do is change your password with your provider. Is this correct? Does one has to take more action?
Thank you
Since I have moved and got a new bt hub I cant connect my Google chromebook to the Internet. Android tablet and phine connected fine but chromebook says no Internet in range even if I am a foot away from hub. Any ideas anyone?
