It will be a disgrace if this happens, unbelievable. I've been going there for many years and so much goes on there for people's well-being.
'Charging for car parking in Norman Park
Bromley council are proposing to charge people for parking in Norman Park. There's a meeting of the relevant committee on Wed 20 Nov where the proposal is being tabled. It would be really helpful if you can email your local councillor expressing your concern- a) charges will act as a barrier to participation to weekly wellbeing events in the park (eg parkrun, Bees, track, football, sports centre, etc) b) there will be chaos in surrounding streets on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Norman Park is in the Hayes & Coney Hall ward. These are contact details for Hayes & Coney Hall Ward councillors 'Josh.Coldspring-White@bromley.gov.uk'; 'Alexa.Michael@bromley.gov.uk'; 'Thomas.Turrell@bromley.gov.uk'. For other Bromley councillors please see here https://cds.bromley.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.aspx?FN=WARD....'

Gardener scam warning following a recent incident
Trading StandardsEditor4 September, 2024
Bromley Trading Standards is reminding residents to be very wary of gardeners, tree 'surgeons', or any other traders offering their services through a card/leaflet or a cold call at your door. The warning follows a Police report from a resident regarding an incident with a scam gardener.
The borough-wide warning follows an incident in Hayes and other reports in Chislehurst and Bickley. Rather than dealing with doorstep traders, the advice is to find a trusted trader for any work required, including getting a proper quote.
In the Hayes example, an elderly resident had three men show up unannounced offering gardening services at the door. After a discussion, the resident had agreed to having the gardening work done for £180.
The gardeners trimmed some bushes for a short period and told the resident upon leaving that it would be £380. When the resident questioned the traders, referring to the agreed price of £180, they accepted the original price instead.
Whatever services are being offered at the door, it is important to note that, when dealing with doorstep traders, there is a risk of receiving poor quality work, being substantially overcharged, and difficulty to get any redress or comeback.
Follow the advice below for what to do when dealing with doorstep traders, and consider using Bromley’s Trading Standards Checked to find a safe and trustworthy trader:
DON’T:
Don’t deal with traders at the door – it’s okay to say NO
Don’t contact traders via leaflets that are delivered through the door – without making thorough checks beforehand
Don’t pay large sums of money in advance – schedule payment as works progress
Don’t assume rubbish removal is included
Don’t accept that traders are members of an organisation because they use a logo
Don’t be rushed into deciding – seek advice first from someone you trust
DO:
Do get several written quotes – prepare a clear detailed brief beforehand
Do seek references, read reliable reviews, ask to visit previous jobs
Do check directly with any reputable organisation named or whose logo is shown on a leaflet/website to make sure the trader is affiliated – if not, report to Bromley Trading Standards
Do get a contract in writing before works commence. Check the T&Cs. You should be entitled to a 14-day cooling off period – with full written cancellation information and not just a mention on a leaflet or a tick box to say you agree
Do check and verify a trader’s insurance -

Bromley Pageant of Motoring cancelled over Ulez charge
8 January 20
A motoring festival held in south-east London for the past 40 years has been cancelled, with organisers citing the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) as the reason.
Norman Park, the location of the Bromley Pageant of Motoring, was brought into the zone in August.
Although many classic cars would be exempt from the £12.50 daily charge, "modern classics" bought less than 40 years ago would be subject to it.
A new site is being sought for 2025.
Organisers Pippa and Jason Griffiths from event management company A-ME said they had taken "considerable time to evaluate all options" for the future of the event.
The show included displays of different vehicles
In a statement, they said: "It became clear that Norman Park is no longer an option and any move to a new venue and date needs to ensure that this firm favourite of the classic car calendar has a bright future.
"We have made the very difficult decision to not hold the event in 2024 but are working on plans to bring back the Bromley Pageant of Motoring in 2025."
The Bromley pageant is said to be the biggest one-day classic car shows in the world, and is famous for its one-make section where vehicles of each make and model can be entered and parked together. -
Home Hairdresser - my sister (91) lives in a retirement flat in Bromley. They have a hair salon with dryers but the hairdresser they use is retiring. Several people there won't be able to get their hair done any more as most of them are housebound.
I'm trying to find someone who could do a wash and set under the dryer rather than blowdry.
Does anyone know any who fits the bill? -
Someone else fed up with the parking at West Wickham (unless it's Selsey in disguise) and they've started a petition.

That’s why evening and night time economies are becoming increasingly important in developing vibrant and liveable places.
Following the Mayor for London’s announcement that Bromley town centre is to become one of the capital’s flagship Night Time Enterprise Zones, the Council is looking at how to create a better environment to welcome people after 6pm to use our town and local businesses.
We want to know what improvements you would like to see to improve Bromley at night. To help shape future plans and make our high streets more accessible, inclusive and welcoming, please spend a few minutes completing the survey below.

were being done at the Civic Centre yesterday. They weren't busy so were taking walk-ins too. My neighbour went but he was a week early so they wouldn't do it.
