World Teachers' Day
Such a date was chosen to commemorate the Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers that was adopted by UNESCO on October 5, 1996. World Teachers' Day aims at mobilizing support for teachers around the world. It is also focuses on ensuring that teachers will continue to meet the needs of future generations.
The observance of World Teachers' Day is supported by Education International, a global federation of teachers' trade unions that represents over 30 million educational personnel in 172 countries and territories. Education International actively promotes the celebration and holds public awareness campaigns aimed at highlighting the importance of the teaching profession.
Many countries have adopted World Teachers' Day as their National Teacher's Day. They include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, Estonia, Germany, Kuwait, Lithuania, Macedonia, Maldives, Mauritius, Moldova, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Serbia, and the UK. Besides, many countries celebrate both World Teachers' Day and National Teacher's Day. The holiday is observed in over 100 countries.
