The Old Oak
A Ken Loach film (possibly his last)
Based in 2016 in a former mining town in Northern England rifts start to form with the arrival of refugees from war torn Syria. The families filling up houses that have lain empty for some time.
The Kindly landlord of the run down pub takes the brunt of locals anger, biased and racist attitudes for his friendship with Yara who arrives with her family and her camera.
As always Loach’s down to earth approach, honesty and sometimes grim detail is realistic, at times heartwarming, at other times heartbreaking.
Our opinion (family) Beautiful, endearing, sad, touching - don’t miss it
