The cooling system on your desktop, laptop is responsible for keeping the CPU cool and therefore working to its potential. When the thermal compound deteriorates, temperatures can rise to 70 or 100 degrees, at which point the CPU starts to throttle in order to keep cool, thus affecting the performance of your machine.
Yesterday I serviced a laptop running extremely slow and VERY hot, mid 80's. its now running at 35 degrees under load. A very good outcome.
If you have a slow machine, why not book it in for a service, full software and hardware service at £60 (others usually charge £120).
