Our new constutuency should be called "Balham and Tooting"
As people may know, the Boundary Commission is reviewing the boundaries of Parliamentary constituencies. You can view their proposals at www.bce2018.org.uk
Unlike the present split of Balham between the Tooting and Battersea seats, their proposals include having the whole of Balham in one constituency along with Tooting. But they propose continuing to call the constituency "Tooting", whereas I think it should be "Balham and Tooting", to describe the constituency more comprehensively. They have done this with other local seats which contain two towns: Battersea and Clapham; Wandsworth and Putney; Brixton and Vauxhall; Mitcham and Norbury. It would be a shame for Balham to be excluded from this.
There was a Balham and Tooting seat in the past, and some of the Boundary Commission's previous proposals included a Balham and Tooting constituency, so there are precedents for this name.
