LIDL - Hornchurch - Predictions
LIDL opens on Thursday and I thought I'd make a few predictions. Traffic can only turn left into and out of the car park.
1. Long queues from the lights at Abbs Cross.
2. Long queues in Abbs Cross lane.
3. Long queues in Abbs Cross Gardens.
4. Long queues in Hornchurch Road from town centre.
5. Store personnel at exit/entrance to prevent illegal turns and smooth traffic entrance and egress (it's monitored by cameras).
After a week or so of local gridlock, the council propose action.
1. Lights at the entrance - doubt it.
2. A mini-roundabout - possible / probable.
3. Exit at back of store - no.
Statement from council - "We apologise for the delays in Hornchurch Road which are due to the opening of a new store. We could not have foreseen the traffic delays and if traffic doesn't realign itself after a short period we will be taking action to alleviate the problems. Havering Council takes the free movement of traffic most seriously and will do everything that it can to ensure traffic once again flows freely".
I hope I'm wrong, so that I can get to Sainsbury's.
