Does Scooploop reflect the wider world?
I have found so many recent posts and comments insensitive, and ignorant. The level of barely disguised racism is horrible.
No way do I condone rioting, violence or breaking the lockdown rules. Nor do I glorify the life path of George Floyd. I am worldly enough to know that most black people feel the same.
However, I have listened enough to recognise that there are very real issues at root here. If I was ever in doubt Scooploop has confirmed it for me. Such naked fear and dislike of ‘the other’.
People are rightly keen to preserve all that’s good of British life. One of our most valued institutions, the NHS has always been underpinned by the knowledge, hard work, and dedication of its workforce, many of whom are black. This is the same workforce that has been there for us recently, whoever we are, actually risking, and sometimes losing, their own lives.
We must listen to what they tell us of the hurts they experience regularly - we owe them that at least.
