The BBC had an evening devoted to the late great Aretha Franklin on Thursday. It featured the film Respect, her life story with Mary J Blige playing the lead role. It also showed stage concerts spanning her long career. A true icon.

Her management encouraged Helen to travel by herself in a special limousine, to reflect her star status, but she preferred sitting in the coach with the supporting acts. 'I wouldn't have missed it for the world, especially while the Beatles were with us.' Together on the coach, the Beatles would bring out their guitars, and Helen would sing a song like 'The Locomotion.' She remembered how Paul would practise writing his autograph over and over again, and then ask her what she thought of it. On one of these coach rides John and Paul hit upon the idea of running up to the microphone together and singing 'Whoooo!', a routine that within a matter of weeks would be setting off explosions of ecstasy among their fans. One night Helen let the Beatles into her changing room so they could watch themselves on television for the first time. John was surprised by the way he looked, particularly the odd, jockey-like stance he adopted onstage. They kept nudging one another and commenting. 'Eh, look at that.' 'You look awful.'"

Has anyone been to see the stage version of Titanic the Musical. I was taken last Wednesday to the afternoon showing, it was amazing and I highly recommend it if you get a chance. That is surely heading for Broadway.

Known mainly for their dance tunes such as Celebration, Get down on it etc but I love this very cool and relaxing piece.. It’s used a lot in theme and background music and at nearly 50 years old it’s somewhat before it’s time.
