Beetroot crisis and other food news
Both Sainsburys and Tesco have run out of baby beetroot. Think there must be a shortage, or an importation issue.
Sainsburys put little union jack flags on their fresh produce to make you think its British. Looked at the label on my spring onions - grown in Senegal.
Now some good news. Bought a PieMinister steak and ale pie. Says on the box 100% recyclable. But its got a plastic window thinks I. Surely that part goes in the bin? But no, that is made from wood pulp and can go in the paper recycling box or on the compost. Who knew that wood could be see through.
I watched Top Gear last night and the whole show was putting electric cars through their paces.
The conclusion was they are still not good enough, except for the Tesla
The Nissan Leaf that Paddy was driving claimed to have a range of 100 miles but in reality it was 50 miles and sometimes only 35 miles.
However the Tesla that was tested had a genuine range of 250 miles. The downside is it's £40k, but who buys a car outright these days?

Has anybody ever eaten or seen "red bananas"?
Googled:
Despite being smaller than their yellow counterpart, red bananas excel in every other area. They contain approximately 110 calories and are packed with fiber, potassium, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin C. ... They taste like a crossover between a regular banana and a ripe, tangy raspberry.

Copy and paste the previous answers and add your new word so we can easily look back if word was already mentioned. Have fun
Annabelle
Been watching the televised games only. It's been quite entertaining at times and some of the players have some good skills. Like in the men's game, its the latin countries that are more prepared to play a bit dirty to get the end result.
But a lot of the refereeing has been awful. Clearly offside goals have been given, even after seeing it on VAR. Both Nigeria (versus France) and Scotland (versus Argentina) were stitched up by the ref making their goalkeepers face a retaken penalty.
I switched channels to see the end of the Scotland game when Jonathan Pearce said about Argentina having a last minute penalty. Didn't realise until reading todays newspaper about the refereeing fiasco that led to the penalty. Scotland were making a substitution but the referee allowed Argentina to carry on playing.

How does a car get on its side?
Walking down to the High Street, we see a police car with blue lights parked across the road we are about to walk along. Then we see a red Citroen on its side in the middle of the road. Half a dozen police are standing around it. There is another police car and ambulance. There is also a black Vauxhall Corsa parked normallly but with some damage to the rear offside.
I ask a police officer, how did that car get like that? He said it was an elderly driver swerved to avoid a bus, hit the parked car and his car flipped.
Think its time to get back to normality

Back in February 2017 we had our last bill from Thames Water. It was £580. Then our street got water meters. We had the option of waiting the full 2 years to switch over, or we could switch over earlier and get a credit for doing so. We switched after seeing the first comparison bill, and we were £265 in credit. Our bill has been in credit ever since, until today.
I finally have a water bill that requires paying, £52. Although this is not the true cost of water used as the previous bill was a credit. The next bill will show the true cost. I'm expecting it to be around £100, which is a big drop from £580.
Great news! Blameless victims of bank transfer scams will soon get refunds from their banks, in another massive win for our campaign.
A new code will launch in May, which will require banks to refund customers who have been scammed into transferring money to fraudsters through no fault of their own.
This is a major victory for bank transfer scam victims - and something we've been calling for since 2016. And it’s thanks to supporters like you, who backed our super-complaint and shared your stories to put pressure on the banks.
The code is voluntary, but several major banks have already signed up. We want all banks to sign up in the coming months to protect their customers.
But for now, will you share this fantastic victory on Facebook with your friends and family?
Thanks and best wishes,

When I switched my TV set on yesterday there was no picture or sound, not even static. It is not worth repairing, so I have a choice of replacing it and probably getting my first flat screen or using my time more productively.
So far, I have searched Freecycle (nothing, only people who wanted TV sets) and Gumtree where there was a wall mounted Alba Freeview TV with no stand for £55. The owner could not remember how long she had had it. I am reluctant to pay more than that for a second hand TV set which may not last very long.
I had a look in Asda today and thought the Polaroid TVs looked a reasonable price. Fortunately, I did not buy one at the time and I have just looked at online reviews for Polaroid TVs. Apparently, Polaroid is owned by Asda (probably Wal-Mart). Out of more than 1,000 reviews, it is hard to find a favourable one and when things go wrong, as they generally do, Asda are not helpful and they don’t want to know if it is out of warranty. It is even worse in the USA; if something goes wrong during the warranty period, customers are expected to pay $120 to ship the item to California for repair.
Can anyone recommend a reliable TV make and model and a reputable supplier in the Portsmouth area who will deal with any issues? I do not want a smart TV.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
I know we've had this before but I seem to be the only one in my (small) circle who tips. I've recently had a job done (£1,000+) and normally I would have tipped - I have to say I find it embarrassing if I tip and also embarrassing if I don't. I paid in advance for the materials so the rest was presumably labour which was high for a day's work - and the work was fine to be honest. I was warned in advance by various people not to tip as it wasn't necessary - they gave the money they wanted in the quote - so I didn't. And now I feel mean.
I'm having other work done by a chap who has really gone out of his way to help and there is no way I wouldn't give him a hefty tip when he goes even though he quoted for the job which also involved other people - who I haven't tipped.
As this is an ongoing problem for me at the moment I'm interested in what other people do and what's the norm. And, let's be honest, even a tenner goes nowhere....

Turned laptop on and the noise of the fan is making a noise like a car over revving. It has done this before quite a few times but it can be fixed by shutting down a nd restarting. But today no amount of shutting down and restarting is making the laptop run with its normal quietness.
It is not yet affecting ths software, apart from it is running a bit slower than usual.
Any suggestions what to do.

Any flooding in anyone's area? We had a high alert for the River Ravensbourne which runs right through Bromley, with the possibility of residences being flooded. We are near one of the roads but, thankfully, slightly uphill so no danger to us. The last time that particular road was flooded must be at least 30 years ago if not more.
Can you identify which famous song contains these lyrics: "Now the half-time air was sweet perfume

Tuesday's sketch folks. Can you guess who I was sketching here? Initials only please. Happy guessing.
Bromley Environment and Community Services sent me a warning letter
I live in the last house of my road on the right hand side. The pavement goes past my house and round to the right into the next road which is a cul-de-sac. From the junction to the wall are 4 houses.
I have bushes in my front garden along the borders and they do overhang the garden wall by about half a paving slab. but there is still room to walk past.
So imagine my shock when I get a letter from Bromley on the Monday before last entitled "Overhanging Vegetation Causing Obstructin To Public Footpath". It states that a member of the public has made a complaint and that i have 14 days to comply with the request to cut my bushes back to the border. Otherwise further action will be taken.
First reaction to the letter was, what member of the public, no one walks round here unless they live here. So then thought it's either a nosy neighbour with nothing better to do or one along the road that I had an incident with about a year ago. Coincidence they moved house in this same week.
Looking along both roads, the maority of front gardens have "overhanging vegetation". Anyway, I have complied and trimmed it all back in about 10 minutes with the hedgecutter.
Anyone else been told to trim their bushes?
