Concrete scanning at the home of England rugby

Perry Testing was at ‘The Home Of England Rugby’ in Twickenham. We had been asked by our client to carry out a programme of concrete scanning https://www.perry-ltd.com/services/structural-and-concrete-scanning/ in order to locate the reinforcement within a number of columns in the stadium.

Our team proposed to use the Hilti Ferroscan PS250 – the very latest ferroscan instrument from market-leading manufacturers, Hilti.

We scanned the column and marked the reinforcement directly onto the column. We also produced a detailed report with 2D and 3D images so the client could design the placement of their holes.

CBR Testing by Perry Ltd (Edited)

CBR was developed by the California Division of Highways for assessing the load-bearing capacity of soil and aggregate materials.
CBR testing https://www.perry-ltd.com/services/in-situ-construction-materials-testing/cbr-testing-california-bearing-ratio/ involves compacting a soil sample within a mould under specified conditions of moisture and density. A plunger is then used to apply a load to the soil at a controlled rate. The test measures the pressure required to penetrate the soil with the plunger at a specific depth and compares it to the pressure needed to penetrate a standard material, usually crushed stone.
The ratio of the measured pressure to penetrate the soil to the pressure required for the standard material is the California Bearing Ratio. It indicates the relative strength of the soil or aggregate material and its ability to support loads. The CBR value is typically expressed as a percentage and is used in pavement design to assess the material's suitability for supporting traffic loads without excessive deformation or failure.
A higher CBR value implies better strength and load-bearing capacity, indicating a material that can withstand greater pressure without deforming. Engineers use CBR values to determine the appropriate design and thickness of pavement layers needed to support anticipated traffic loads, ensuring durable and stable roadways.

Geotechnical Testing: The Foundation of Your Construction Project (Edited)

Building a safe and secure structure starts with a solid foundation, and that's where geotechnical testing comes in. It's essentially an examination of the ground to see if it can support your planned construction.
    https://www.perry-ltd.com/blog/what-is-geotechnical-testing/
    Why is it important?

Imagine building on weak soil - not very stable! Geotechnical testing helps avoid this by assessing the ground's strength, composition and other characteristics. This information allows engineers to design a foundation that can safely hold your building.

    Benefits of Geotechnical Testing:

Ensures Stability: Identifies potential issues like weak soil that could threaten your building's safety.
Saves Money: Early detection of problems prevents costly repairs later on.
Improves Design: Data from testing helps design a foundation optimized for the specific ground conditions.
Minimises Disruption: Many tests are done quickly on-site, with instant reports.
Perry Testing Ltd: Your Partner in Geotechnical Testing

We offer various tests to meet your project's needs, all carried out with minimal disruption and budget in mind. Plus, most of our tests are done on-site with immediate reports, so you can keep your project moving forward.

    Our Services:

California Bearing Ratio (CBR) Testing: Measures ground strength for pavements and roads.
Incremental Plate Load Testing: Determines weight capacity of surfaces for heavy machinery.
Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) Testing: Assesses pavement condition and underlying soil.
Hand Shear Vane Testing: Measures strength of cohesive soils.
Sand Replacement & Core Cutter Density Testing: Determines soil density for compaction in road design.
