TOTO Energy door to door soliciting - warning?

In Tooting Bec today, a man knocked at my door claiming to represent TOTO Energy. His ID (no photo) looked maybe home-made, but he carried literature from the company. The pitch seemed to be an offer to install a Smart energy meter for free. The company have a web site, which looks legit. When I told him I would request a smart meter from my own energy supplier, he proffered a tablet computer showing a gov.uk government web site as proof that I had requested a smart meter five years ago (I have not) and my current energy supplier had ignored my request. He talked fast and was impatient when I asked to see his ID and did not respond to his pitch. He did not identify this as an attempt to persuade me to switch energy supplier to Toto, although that is clearly what it was. His pitch was that they would install a smart meter for free. Which may be true, but I believe all energy suppliers are required to do that anyway.

So, be aware if this company knock on your door, their offer is not what it seems. I have complained to Wandsworth Council about door to door soliciting before, but at that time it was permitted by law, may still be, and there was nothing they could do to stop it. My objection is mostly how companies and charities treat their employees, often failing to comply with minimum wage laws and making promises of rewards that will never be fulfilled.
