Guided walk - Sunday 24th - Wandsworth Common to Richmond
I'm wondering if anyone's interested in a guided walk on Sunday 24th from Wandsworth Common station to Richmond on the Capital Ring footpath, the landscape and views are perhaps the finest in London.
I've led walks for TfL and various Boroughs for the past 11 years and also occasionally offer them under my own steam. I offered this walk privately for 17th June and have been overwhelmed by the response from my list of interested people. I'm thus proposing a repeat on Sunday 24th so as to form two walks with comfortable levels of participation for all. Below is the initial description that brought such an embarrassingly large response.
---------------
Either seven or 9.5 miles - your choice. We'll use the 'Capital Ring' footpath from either Wandsworth Common or Wimbledon Park stations and finish by the Thames at Richmond. Many consider this particular walk to be the best in London as it traverses the truly rural Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park. This is the year to do this as the hard Winter and wet Spring have led to outstanding verdancy. Presently the 20 mile view from Richmond Park shows barely a building for the trees.
The route has three moderately steep ascents and much is not surfaced. Muddy spots are easily avoided and the landscape is of course splendid to sublime. Almost all of the walk after South Wimbledon is 'off road', a remarkable distance for London.
We'd meet at Wandsworth Common station at about 11.00, Wimbledon Park station at about 12.30 and be finished by 17.30/5.30pm.
I don't charge for these walks but will happily accept contributions towards my expenses and time should you wish to make any.
All the best
Ian
