Do you use local shops?

Just wondering yesterday afternoon actually if many people shop locally anymore. It's such a shame that even the big boys can't hack it on the high street. It is so much easier to get everything at the supermarket than go to individual little shops to get different things. I've decided from now on to try and buy at least one item a week from a local shop. Do you use local shops and why?
