Sound Minds is a user led charity and social enterprise transforming the lives of people experiencing mental ill health through participation in arts activities. We are a thriving community bound together by creativity and a shared belief in mutual support.
Sound Minds success and our reputation for developing and managing innovative projects has only been possible because service users run the organisation. The majority of our staff, directors and volunteers originally came to receive the service they now help to provide. Our governing documents require that service users are not in a minority on our Management board.
Services are mostly provided from a large suite of rooms in the basement of Battersea Methodist Mission. Facilites include a spacious rehearsal room with en suite recording facility, a smaller studio for recording mixing and video editing, a visual art studio, lounge, kitchen and a newly refurbished teaching studio. As well as the latest music making equipment we also have facilities for filmmaking and editing and a DJ set-up.
Sound Minds is home to a number of bands including Bluesology, The legendary reggae band Channel One and the Sound Minds Jazz Collective. Accredited courses are offered in music production and filmmaking and we offer one to one lessons in drums, keyboards bass and guitar.
Sound Minds is also the base for BaME service user group Canerwos and Plaits who provide a mental health Ward Visiting service and peer support and consultation. .
